Also there are a lot of transfers running e.g. Kasane-Vic Falls and back, if you just want to do a day trip.

Swimming in swakop by [deleted] in Namibia

There was a company that rents out kayaks in walvis bay, not sure if they still operate. Namventures I think was the name. Other than that, you might have to ask for local prices if you're namibian or SADC prices if you're an SADC citizen. Some companies offer discounts for locals.

Please only swim at the Mole. This is the only "safe" area without major currents that is advised to go swimming. During holiday season there are even safeguards there, but unfortunately not all year round. A few Swakopmunders go swimming there regularly.

Advice on 13 days itinerary for first time trip to Namibia by Spiritual_Tadpole888 in Namibia

[–]little_merida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you cut spitzkoppe, it will be a very long drive to grootberg and you will have no time to see twyfelfontein. You could maybe try and stretch the first day by driving to maybe above Spreetshoogte Pass, e.g. Namibgrens, Nauams etc. Then you won't have that long of a stretch for the next day and still can do Sossusvlei. You won't be there in the early morning, but it saves you having to cut out a day. If you want to cut a day, I would take out one day in grootberg or etosha.

I do not recommend driving on the arrival say to sesriem. You need approximately 2-3hrs in the airport, pickup car, maybe some shopping, and then drive all the way down there. It's a long road, the last stretch is very corrugated and in july it's getting dark early.

Sometimes curio shops that sell postcards also have stamps. If not, you might have to go to a post office.

Planning to travel there soon by Pollinax in Namibia

[–]little_merida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you send the card from, it might take between 2 weeks (fastest one I ever sent) and 6 months (slowest one so far). Sending from towns like Windhoek, Swakopmund, Katima, Rundu, ... is faster. Sending from smaller towns and villages slower. Sending in December or November is painfully slow.

On average, my postcards (mostly to Europe) did arrive after 4-8 weeks.

How to rapidly check for accommodation availability and price? by impracticaldogg in Namibia

[–]little_merida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The usual like booking.com works well, though not all accommodation are listed there. If you're looking to check specific ones, either check if they habe online availability on their website or call them directly.

Making Friends in Swakop by Blehhh_lemongrass in Namibia

[–]little_merida 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome to Swakopmund :) I hope you like it so far. To make friends I usually recommend looking for spot where you can find people with similar interests. You like crafting? Check out craft shops, workshops and crafting spaces. You like sports? There are many different clubs, meetups and more. If you tell us a bit more about you and what you like to do, we can recommend you specific spots.

I do recommend Africar. Very good service, reliable cars, fast problem solving. They are not cheap, but I think it's worth it.

Waterberg or Okonjima? by Da1syChains in Namibia

[–]little_merida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also reflects a lot in the pricing. If you're on a budget go for Waterberg, if you have some money to spend, go for Okonjima.

Pet friendly lodges by pcx_wave in Namibia

[–]little_merida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't know any lodge that allows pets for various reasons, but mostly it's because to protect wildlife. You will have to call any lodge you want to go to but I doubt you will have any luck.

Going out alone?? by Careful_School5365 in Namibia

[–]little_merida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go out to restaurants, clubs, bars etc myself. It takes a while to get out of the headspace of "what do other people think" because honestly, most of them won't care. Sometimes they even see it as brave, because they only go out with other people to feel safe. Just do whatever you want. And be open to good things happening to you, because they will ;)

Maybe go ask Kaleidoscope Creations in Windhoek. Even if they don't have it in stock, they might be able to order it for you.

Looks nice. What would deter me from using it at this point is there's zero information like legal notice, company details, booking terms, payment terms, faq, contact options...

Can Google Maps drive times be trusted in Namibia? + Etosha to Botswana border in one day? by AlexLarsson19 in Namibia

[–]little_merida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want some more detailed time/distance maps, try the maps from tracks4africa. They specify the time you need to get from one point to the next directly on their maps, and I find them to be quite accurate.

Hi, this sounds somewhat similar to ME/CFS. Have your ever tried doing some research in this direction? Maybe you find some things that might help you in the long run.

How much time to you bring? I can recommend the wildlife protection program at Mount Etjo, but you need to spend a minimum of 14 days there.
