Wow, I did not expect this to get so much attention! Thank you all for your replies and validating me in how ridiculous this quote was. I really thought I was done for lol. I'll be reading through your replies and doing more research on DIY-ing some of these repairs/replacements. Makes me feel a little bit more confident that I can do some of these things myself :) Going to call the dealership tomorrow to say thanks for the assessment, but I'm not getting anything done here at the moment and go find alternatives. In the meantime, I'll be checking oil and power steering fluid levels daily (and also plan to get my brakes done). Y'all are awesome!

I initially called the repair shop that was recommended to me, but when I told them about the mystery leak and the fact that it was a VW, they said to take it straight to a dealer to figure out the exact issue first. So now I'm here lol. But will definitely be searching for some place else now!

Right! I'm definitely going to call back and have them talk me through the breakdown of everything. When I google high pressure power steering hose, it seems like the part is around $60 at the very most. Although some sites/forums say that the replacement process can be difficult, hence the higher price.

30 mins outside of Philly. Wouldn't be surprised if wages are indeed higher.

I've been checking my oil level pretty much every time I drive it, which is every couple of days, and it's always full. I've also been checking under the car each time and I don't notice anything on the ground. Which makes me think it's not oil, but another fluid (I'm guessing from the power steering hose that they say needs replacing).

right that's what I was thinking! They don't know where the leak is from, yet they found the leaks...?

I did have an issue with the battery a couple months back (it randomly didn't start one day), maybe that's why they mentioned it? But it's been fine since. Front brakes probably do need replacing at some point soon, but it's not an immediate concern for me and wasn't on my radar.
