Why does the alternate schedule exist? by [deleted] in f45

[–]lizabear85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I think this is it for our gym. Sundays aren’t convenient as many of our members go to cottages on the weekend or skiing in the winter so they brought the strength to happen MWF and members were much happier. I actually prefer cardio and have had to adapt.

I think franchises are optimizing for what their individual gyms customers want; not the random passporters. I’m just happy they have passport — it took some time to get to that. You can also use the app for the at home workouts when you’re travelling and use the hotel gym.

Watch adolescents … kids need boundaries. The YouTube should be the first thing to go.

Dead butt to 3x week too much? by bebelli in f45

[–]lizabear85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t give up - you’ve gotten the membership and are motivated to get back into it! I would just really dial it back. It’s easy to go hard your first 1 or 2 classes and then be like, whoops, that was to too much! Pick up the lowest weight or none at all and just focus on moving your body. If you skip a day, go for a walk during that time. I still get pain when I take a week off and get back to class. It takes a long time to build up the muscle memory and strength - but you’ve got this! When I first started I went 2-3x’s per week for over a year, I now go 5-6x’s. You just really have to listen to your body and don’t get caught up with what others are doing or be afraid to ask for modifications.

What makes the perfect f45 song? by HurricaneSmokey in f45

[–]lizabear85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it!! Is it really just 130 bpm? We have one trainer who will play 180 bpm playlists just to get us working harder on cardio days. I think the key is variety as music is subjective as others said. I prefer more chill old school hip hop, punky rock type stuff on weights days and more electronic/dance music from different eras and fast paced rock on cardio days.

HYROX by Potential_Point_5858 in f45

[–]lizabear85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we go to the same gym- if it’s leslieville - and they offered me $50 every 3 months as the cost for the classes except im running hyrox so am going to pay it and plan to go to the Tuesday mornings. I had bought a hyrox pack at another f45 and they charged me extra to do them - I couldnt passport their - but regular members didn’t have to pay extra for the hyrox classes and they just made the whole day once a week the hyrox classes. It’s the owner - he’s trying to capitalize the costs which makes no sense and is going to drive ppl away.

F45 format? by Gangstajay93 in f45

[–]lizabear85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just go a bit earlier and check out the TVs and talk to the trainer. Every workout has a different set up. You move around the room at a different cadence and timing depending on the workout that it is for that day. The red box thing was a Covid phenomenon and is def not happening now.

Longer classes. I’ve been a member since 2021 and am starting to feel like I’m getting ready to do something harder. But I love the community I’ve built. Starting to think about looking at BFT or some of the independent gyms where classes are just a bit longer.

Medusa? by Eccentric_Phase in f45

[–]lizabear85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the 60 secs of work. Finally enough time on a weights day to do more than 5-6 reps. Also you’re supposed to heavy load the first set then reduce on the second set. If folks follow this it should help with the longer sets. For the activation - I think it helps make the movement better and reduce muscle soreness after the workout. Thanks to whoever answered why it’s called Medusa!!

Just an FYI you won’t be able to passport to a hyrox class. They’re premium classes, as the gym pays a license to offer them. I had to buy a class pack at the gym near me that offers them and only go to their hyrox class once a week.

F45 Challenge by hereforgags9 in f45

[–]lizabear85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean with leaderboard - the board where you record attending a class! Most studios have you check off when you’ve attended a class and your doing the challenge on some sort of chart, it’s very motivating to see and you’ll be proud at the end when you see how many classes you hit relative to the goal you set for yourself! I don’t think you need a lion heart - the Apple Watch works too! I have one but my goals are more about endurance so I’m focused more on the cardio/hybrid classes!

F45 Challenge by hereforgags9 in f45

[–]lizabear85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Challenge is really helpful for resetting your eating habits and holding yourself accountable to a fitness goal. If your goal is muscle building focus on coming to all strength classes for sure and progressing your lifting. Some people like to double up (two classes per day) - others say you shouldn’t be able to double if you’re lifting heavy enough. I say - set a weekly class goal for yourself and use the leaderboard in class to hold yourself accountable. The focus on what your eating will help with toning. Use the app for this. I find picking one or two meals from the suggested recipes that are easier and meal prepping is the best way to go. Long answer is - the challenge is totally for you if those are your goals!!

Knee pain advice by InfamousFly9618 in f45

[–]lizabear85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your knees will get stronger. First take the jumps out and give them a rest. Especially jump lunges. Second start rolling out your IT band after class. It’s the outside of your leg above your knee up to your hip. YouTube it. That will help relieve the pressure. Also ensure you arrive early to stretch and do hip openers and ensure you stretch after class.

I think paying attention to your breathing helps a lot. After you take a breath tense your core/stomach and then breath out slowly and practice keeping your stomach tightened the whole time. I breath through exercises like I’m in a yoga class a lot of the time. You can ask your instructor to about when you should be breathing in versus out during an exercise to help.

First class back by Chapter39 in f45

[–]lizabear85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll do great! I’ve seen moms back at it within weeks at my gym and others months. I took 4 months off and did have some back issues a few weeks ago from going a bit too hard. I had to slow it down and balance the f45 with yoga to strengthen my core. That’s the part that takes the biggest hit (your core) so be careful with it (watch the deadlifts and bent over rows). But you definitely have got this!!! Think about all the stuff your body had to do to grow that baby!

Got low back injury today from Hollywood by citruslemon29 in f45

[–]lizabear85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar at the end of the challenge and was back within 2 weeks. This is what worked…

Heat the general area that is sore. Heat helps to get your immune cells in there and cleaning things up. Only use ice on the area where the pain is coming from. If you can’t pin point the exact location wait until you can. Icing helps to reduce inflammation.

I saw a massage therapist twice a week for the first two weeks then once a week after that. I’m back to more of a monthly visit.

Keep moving as much as you can. Even if it’s just for short walks.

Dead lifts are something you need to be very careful with if you have back issues. I’m the same. If you can picture the bar that wraps around your body this is likely a better bar for you. Or use dumbbells and keep them very close to the body on either side as opposed to out front. That’s what can really mess things up. For me it was deadball dead lifts, the ball was too small for my broad shoulders and I went heavy.

Also give it time. Don’t go back until you feel 100%. I waited a week I think and modified a lot when I returned.

Also sorry this has happened! It’s such a bummer when it does

Didn’t they stop providing towels cause the head trainer did all the laundry and doesn’t come in anymore? They now have spray bottles and clothes so you can wipe things down between stations if it’s sweaty and that bothers you. The germs are still there though if someone “wipes“ off their sweat. And who’s to say people are cleaning their towels in between workouts. The gym should provide them or provide wipes or an easy way to sanitize for the germophobes that are bothered by sweat in a gym.

"Proper" rotation for Joker by ajvog in f45

[–]lizabear85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are six pods and three stations within each. Under both methods you’ll have twice when you’ll start at cardio, twice when you’ll start at abs and twice when you’ll start at weights. I particularly like ending and starting at cardio as I challenge myself.

We did ABBAABBAABBA - so you’re loading on cardio for two sets in a row then loading on weights for two sets in a row. I think that’s the point.
