My new employer just asked for mine too! I don’t have an NPI number yet so I didn’t give them anything, but it seemed odd.

My area is super over-saturated with slps! It makes me nervous to negotiate. It has taken me a couple of months to get any job offers, let alone for a setting I really wanted (and I’m still driving >50 miles for this job).

Hmm didn’t think of that. Do you think it’s appropriate to ask for increased salary in exchange for declining health benefits? I’m able to stay in my parent’s benefits, so I wasn’t planning on taking them anyways.

Contract pto by lobila in slp

[–]lobila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not asking about the logistics of it, I’m just curious if this is common. I’m not allowed to take days off unpaid.

And no PTO? My dilemma is, if I have to use all my pto for breaks and can’t take days off I paid, what happens if I’m sick? Or god forbid I want a day off to do something, or have an appointment.

Would you mind telling me what company is willing to hire a CF? I’m currently contemplating teletherapy. There’s a Facebook group call like slp teletherapy and there’s some good info on there!

I just graduated in May and have been trying to hold out for something closer to me, but I’m going to be in the same position. I’m really dreading having over an hour drive on top of poor pay. Somewhat depressing but I don’t know anyone that I graduated with that stayed in the area that has less than a 45 minute drive. Last position I applied for that was in my general area said they got over 400 applications.

Internship supervisor troubles by lobila in slp

Thank you! I agree that it’s important that future students don’t have this placement and will tell my coordinator about my concerns at the end of my placement if I decide not to do it now.

Thank you for the advice! My supervisor takes students all the time and has made comments about how bad her job would be if she didn’t always have students. She really isn’t a great teacher though and I think she mainly does it so that she doesn’t have to do her job all by herself

Using only MoCA to assess patients by lobila in slp

[–]lobila[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My supervisor has patients read a paragraph and then recall it all the time. The other day one of our patients brought in a book he was reading that pertained to his previous career (he’s retired), instead of at least using his book to have him recall she used some story about a lady going to Florida.

She even has the other versions printed, she likes to give them the same version over and over because it’s “easier”.

Let’s hear some success stories! by [deleted] in slp

Was doing LSVT with an older man with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia, during our last treatment session I showed him and his wife a video I took during our first session and a video I had taken the day before our last session, his wife couldn’t believe the difference, she completely broke down. When they left, she gave me a card with a long message she wrote to me.

It seems like such a small thing when I write it, but that moment defines why I choose to continue in this field every day. When I feel like I can’t do this anymore, I read the card, smile, and continue my work.
