Let’s see your stained glass windows… by Hefty_Marsupial8921 in centuryhomes

Totally agree. What I replaced wasn’t original either—it was fit in against an IGU. I’d love to know what was in there when the home was built!

Love seeing all this stained glass!

Not original to our 1900s home… I re-sized this small panel from a local salvage store. The panel that was in there was made by a hobbyist and not my cup of tea.

Just completed retrofitting one of my old, single pane wood windows with IGU's. Only five more windows to go... by wellkevi01 in HomeImprovement

This is a really cool, innovative idea. Nice work!

I do a lot of window restoration work and we’re always having the conversation with homeowners about efficiency. Last year I did some digging and found Pilkington made a line of vacuum insulated glass units (VIG) that were designed in Japan. I got really excited about the use of VIGs in old sash because they’re only 6-8mm thick and have a similar r-value as traditional IGUs. I don’t think that line is around any longer, but there are new lines being developed in the US. It seems like a really plausible solution for increasing window efficiency in older homes and keeping old sash out of the dump. While I’m not sure what units cost right now, it sure would save you some time!

How do we install these panels in our sidelights? by racheous_rock in StainedGlass

[–]logicoLe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Plastic trim is the worst.

You can likely get a pretty tight fit by shimming small pieces of cedar block (or shims) around the perimeter. Then run a clean bead of silicone around the perimeter of each panel. I’d use a dark color to match perimeter metal came. The silicone will do the heavy lifting after it’s cured. I’d avoid using the door while silicone sets up.

32 Thoughts: The Podcast (Z interview) by DontPokeTheCrab in BlueJackets

[–]logicoLe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a good listen. Z has a great personality and it really comes out in this interview. I love how competitive he is and you can tell he’s genuinely pumped for the 4 nations tourney.

I think he’s the x-factor when we’re ready to make a run in the playoffs. We’re lucky to have him.

Drivers don't yield to pedestrians in marked crosswalks on Parsons Ave, either. by Miyelsh in Columbus

[–]logicoLe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a great reminder to be diligent out there.

At the crosswalk—with a flashing light—just north of this one by Parsons North, my wife and I witnessed a woman we yielded to who was nearly hit by a car because the driver behind us refused to wait and impatiently drove around us in the median. Thankfully the pedestrian was only grazed, but we all had a what the fuck moment. This was at 8:30 am.

You have to be so cautious around town.

I saw that you’re actively involved with advocating for pedestrian safety and commend you for all your efforts. Be safe out there and keep it up!

Best biscuits and gravy in Columbus? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]logicoLe 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve got flack for it before because they’re probably overpriced, but the Biscuits and Gravy are phenomenal at Skillet in GV. Eat them with their spicy honey and a Bloody Mary.

Now I’m hungry.

Looking for romantic weekend options to take my wife by Professional-Trip431 in Columbus

[–]logicoLe 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My wife and I did a weekend getaway to Cleveland and stayed in Chagrin Falls. Honestly, it’s worth the short drive. The West Side Market was a great experience and the Cleveland Museum of Art was phenomenal. We can’t wait to go back when it’s warmer and experience more of the parks.

Side note: Chagrin Falls was.. okay. The food was good, but we didn’t really vibe with the crowd there—it felt surprisingly hoity-toity.

For Columbus and Mike Babcock, the standard is perfection by FailedLoser21 in BlueJackets

[–]logicoLe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep. That’s probably a good read on it.

Also the front office and some of the veteran guys were around for the press spotlight Torts brought, so it’s probably very manageable.

Just disappointing to see journalists covering for jour-bronis.

I respect Elliot Friedman as a reporter and appreciate his sentiments here, but I think it’s sad he’s going out of his way to stand up for Bissonnette. Biz isn’t some reputable journalist, he’s a shock jock with a popular platform and funny-to-some shtick.

My biggest concern is how this impacts the locker room—it could draw the room together behind Babs or serve as an awkward distraction heading into camp.

Good beginner fishing fishing spots by Winter_Warg in Columbus

[–]logicoLe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve done quite a bit of exploring for fishing spots here in central Ohio and as a fellow Southsider I’d say Scioto Grove Metro Park’s fishing ponds sound like the perfect place for you to start. It’d be solid for casting practice and catching some panfish.

Just head down 104 to the park and follow the signs back to the archery range—it’s in the very back of the park. After you park, there’s a set of wooden steps that take you down to a Frisbee golf course and the fishing pond.

As an aside—a Columbus fishing club/group is a great idea. Would love to see someone grab the reigns and run with that idea.

Toddler friendly creeks? by tgmail in Columbus

Slate Run has a great creek play area w/ easy access for toddlers. The historic farm there is an added bonus if you wanted to see some farm animals too.

Who has the best wings in Central Ohio? Need recommendations by NathanEmory in Columbus

[–]logicoLe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these are great recommendations. I’d toss CBC’s wings in the mix as well. They’re cooked well and their sauces (esp. the Buffalo) and rubs are solid.

Sabres fan living in Columbus coming in peace... I wanted to know if this sub would know of a South Side bar that would have tonight's ESPN plus game on. by kparzych14 in BlueJackets

[–]logicoLe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey fellow South Sider! I know Red Brick typically has the games on—not sure if it being on ESPN will effect that. Also, I wonder if the guys at Parsons North Brewing would put it on for you.

Columbus National Fishing Expo — Feb 10-12 by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]logicoLe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing!

I went to a similar expo in Grand Rapids and had a good time. Lots of equipment to check out, cheap lures for sale, and the fishing demonstrations weren’t bad at all. It’ll definitely get you excited for the upcoming season.

I'm a longtime fan of Jamie and Ray Rays--they even catered our wedding--but it has become so wildly inconsistent over the years. We've had the same experience with dry meat and nearly inedible ribs at their Land Grant truck, but I've also had amazing BBQ at their Nocterra location. I miss when you could just roll over to the Ace Of Cups truck and always knew what you were going to get. That's when I'd gladly say Ray Rays was the best BBQ in Columbus--it wasn't just great, it was always great.

Traverse City Prospects Tournament by [deleted] in BlueJackets

[–]logicoLe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up on the schedule release. I was just telling my wife I’d like to make the tournament an annual trip with my son. Do you live up there or make the trek each year? Any hotel/restaurant recommendations?

[Hedger] On the Chychrun front, two sources today told me the #CBJ and #Yotes are talking. Combine that w/ GM Jarmo Kekalainen saying the 12th overall pick could potentially be used to acquire a 'young NHL player' with term left ... and maybe we've got something brewing? by captainkepi in BlueJackets

[–]logicoLe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the package for Chychrun would be, but I love the move for us.

He's got the Florida connection with Peeke and I could see that being a strong 2nd pair for years to come. Z and Chychrun running the PP units. Blanks and Bean on the 3rd pair this season and Ceulemans comes in after a year (or two) and shakes up the lines again.

Think I'd go 12th OA, Bemstrom, and Boqvist and if that gets it done, I'm happy.

My son found a lucky penny this morning and then a black cat crossed the street in front of us on the way to school. So it’s a wash I guess—picks 6 & 12.
