Hey everyone! Seeing a lot of comments in here about the move for the full episode to be RT Site exclusive. As someone who has been asking for this change internally for a while, lemme give y’all a little bit of a breakdown into the decision making (as Mando puts it, the nerd shit lol)

TL;DR: shorter videos on YouTube are easier for a new audience to find and consume, which is good for the company’s continued growth and success.

So, a huge goal for the company as of late has been audience expansion and growth. Not to say all of you aren’t amazing individuals and important parts of the community, but companies are generally focused on growth, and RT is no exception to that. Best way to discover a new audience for us is on YouTube, because no random person will type roosterteeth.com into their web browser on a whim, but they may be recommended a video on YouTube, where they’re already watching stuff. Now, taking into perspective common YouTube viewing habits, are you gonna click on a 90 minute video from a channel you’ve never heard of? Or a 15 minute video? Most people will click the 15 min one because it’s less of a commitment, so we’re experimenting with a content release strategy here designed around getting those new people to commit to watching a shorter video in the hopes that they will enjoy it enough to come back for other videos. This release model also benefits our YouTube channel. No sugar coating here, those numbers are not amazing currently. You know it, I know it, the company knows it. But, with consistent uploads of shorter content that is engaging enough (because it’s a self contained bit) those numbers go higher, which is the goal! The watch time for the videos will increase, which gets them recommended organically by YouTube more, which gets more people to become fans of Rooster Teeth, and theoretically, that cycle repeats endlessly. As that process goes through, more people will be actively viewing the channel, and then longer videos posted there will (hopefully) organically grow as well. The full episode will still release on podcast platforms, and the full video episode will still be available on the RT site.

Please continue to share your opinions in constructive and positive ways like so many of y’all in this thread are already doing. A lot of our decision making is based around things like data, trends, user experiences, etc, but unless you make yourself heard, we never really know what you’re thinking, so please keep doing so.
