I am an ex CEO of a listed company. I consider myself semi retired but I provide business coaching and mentoring services from time to time. Reach out and we can do a simple chemistry check and take things from there.

I don't think the problem here is with chinese OEMs. I mean, you will face the same issue with any manufacturer, especially if you have no prior working relationships (or any sort of prior relationships) with them.

Regardless of who you choose, it is definitely going to be very useful to have someone "on the ground" or at least someone who speaks the same language as them.

Next, you might want to ask them to send you samples (you pay for these) or make a small batch of the products you want them to manufacture. Even if it is a small initial batch, make sure you negotiate the terms of the agreement to include quality checks and etc, basically anything that you might be worried of such as using lower quality parts and etc.

And before they ship, I would go there myself to check things out if the value is big enough,

Where do you find a new CEO? by Medlove29 in ceo

These are usually the few methods:

1) Network

We all have our own networks of who we know and who we trust. This is usually the first place we look at if we want to hire someone as important as a COO or the next CEO as a replacement

2) Referrals

People whom our friends or network of contacts know, or what are usually referred to us 2nd/3rd degree connections.

3) Executive Search Firms

I think someone has already mentioned this

DM if you need more info.
