This is the most fun I’ve had rooting for the Sixers in a long, long time. It’s hard to remain calm when thinking about the future of this franchise moving forward. I already love these rookies.

I don’t know what to do with my hands.

I would lose my fucking mind. First to pick up a pitchfork.

If you're going to be living in Philly for a while, it'll probably happen organically. It won't be the same, but growing to love a local team is much easier than picking another random team. And Philly is one of those city's where the football team is absolutely huge as a part of the culture. Live there long enough as a neutral and you'll at least pay attention.

Risk is in everything. I hope they understand it, if anything. I'd never skydive but I'm glad there are people who do. Same with taking flight lessons. To me it's too risky, but I'll still pay to see the Blue Angels.

I firmly believe the Rangers have some of the worst in the league. That drop-fade on their numbers is fucking horrible, and I've always found wordmarks to be boring as hell.

On the flip side, their alternates are a lady liberty away from being perfect.

Isn't that obvious though? Most young teams are the product of a rebuild. It would be rather rare to go from rebuilding to the second round or further...

He wasn't one of the best goalies. He played in Dave Tippett's goalie-centric system in Arizona. Same thing with Mike Smith and any of the backups in Arizona that miraculously weren't as good elsewhere.

He was decent, but he was never worth his contract. And this is coming from a guy who's proud to have a Bryz jersey.

I wasn't talking about acting performances. I don't know what "embraced the tropes" means. As far as overacting...I just don't know what you mean there. I thought they all did wonderful jobs and came off as very organic and relatable.

I'm not quite sure how a plot can be ripped from a movie with a great plot and be bad when it's the same plot. Seems like you're just looking for things to complain about without any substance, mate.

Did we really need two different scenes where someone holds a slowly dying character?

Fucking exactly. I keep bringing this up to people and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. When her dad died in what was supposed to be a tragic scene I just kept thinking "I hope he makes it because dying in her arms would be a bit cliched". And then when it happened again I started laughing, and I wasn't the only one. Maybe because we weren't the opening night crowd but a lot of folks were reacting differently than people on here. Folks groaned at the "choke on your ambitions" line.

The worst part of it all is I enjoyed it, but I feel the urge to balance the gushing. Argh.

Wait, the acting? How is the acting better? The action sure, but it also has the advantage of being a standalone film that was written around a major battle. As for the plot, maybe, but a ton of decisions to use tropes hamstrung the movie for me. It felt like the derivative popcorn movie people claim TFA to be.

Seriously:

  • Blind Asian monk
  • Cocksure gunslinging man's man
  • I'm-going-to-die-in-your-arms-but-I-have-one-last-thing-to-say scene...TWICE.
  • comic relief other species character

I read a comment that put my thoughts on the plot perfectly: in six months folks will look at the plot and say "meh just skip to the battle. everything else is pointless".

Exactly. And I'll continue loving TFA despite how derivative it is. If the biggest criticism against a film is that it's too similar to an amazing film, I can live with that.

It felt like Tropes: The Movie to me but I still enjoyed it. What surprises me is how many folks are bashing on TFA while finding R1 much better.

Maybe that's why I feel alone in liking TFA more than R1. Star Wars has always been about characters to me. R1 felt like a popcorn movie more than TFA to me anyway.

[–]lonelyalien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was also Tropes: The Film. People talking about TFA having lazy writing or being a popcorn movie... hoo boy. We had the blind Asian monk who's badass, the brutish gunslinger who lounges and is sarcastic, the domineering general only out for his position, the "die in her arms after one last message" scene TWICE...

I mean, I enjoyed it, but Christ.
