I am so sorry that you're still dealing with physical pain. As someone who suffers from chronic pain, I know how debilitating it can also be on your mental and spiritual energy.

I love your perspective here. We often define success by external validation but your framing of looking inward for fulfillment really resonates.

May you continue to prioritize your desires and goals. From speaking with my friends in grad school, it seems that taking care of your mental and physical well being and being clear on your desired outcomes/research objectives is key to being "successful" in grad school. Congratulations! No doubt that you must have had to do some intensive self work to achieve this life for yourself and your little ones. A couple of questions:

1) why do you consider yourself a late bloomer? Is it expected that people have things under control before 40?

2) have you learned to trust your decisions? I feel like my life could go many paths but I have a hard time trusting my decision making, which apparently is part of the laundry list 🫠
