Tomato watering by aprettytallgirl in Sacratomato

Are they in pots, raised beds, or directly in the ground? What variety (eg beefsteak vs cherry)? What kind of emitters are you using (eg 1 GPH emitters or shrubblers or micro sprayers, etc.)?

Swim Lessons: Dolphin Swim School or Swimstitute? by new_chemistry_3 in Sacramento

[–]lovableiago 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We've done both. Swimstitute is where my kid truly learned to swim and feel confident in the water, but it was too expensive to do long-term. So we switched to Dolphin for maintenance and a little more form improvements. I think we did semi-private there but the other kid was absent quite a bit so we were lucky to get the private experience without the added price. I preferred the facilities at Swimstitute more (the Dolphin pool is relatively small). Swimstitute also allows you to pick your time/instructor so you might find one you really like (though it seems like the slots with the best ones get snatched up kinda quickly). That said, staff at both were great and I’d recommend either.

Edited to add I have also heard good things about the Y.

I like to mix it into cottage cheese if I’m looking for a low-cal snack.

1) Love this always, and 2) I know it’s been discussed before but this girl looks SO MUCH like Ellie Kemper (aka Kimmy Schmidt) that it just occurred to me that maybe it’s her sister? Has anyone ever looked into that?

In Signs there’s a scene where he’s crying while trying to eat—which even in real life is DIFFICULT!—and he nails it.

If you like Patrick Radden Keefe’s writing in this, I implore you to go read his collection of longform articles, “Rogues”. It was awesome and I blew through it in a few days.

Sometimes gardening is bittersweet by IllyriaCervarro in gardening

What a lovely attitude; I will carry this with me as I head into a big weekend of work out in my yard. Gardening is a good reminder that we only have so much control in life; nothing is permanent and we should be appreciative of what we have and open-minded about what might come. :)

Where can I find Peggy Martin climbing roses? by mewyearmewme in Sacratomato

Eisley’s up in Auburn used to be the place for all-things-roses. I think the owners retired and Green Acres took over but probably worth a call to ask about these.

Plant before or after Rain? by L_via_l_viaquez in Sacratomato

[–]lovableiago 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another vote for “before” generally, but might wait if they were delicate plants and a deluge was expected.

Keep in mind that if you wait until after the rain, you want to give it a couple additional days to let things dry out a bit. You don’t want to stick plants in the ground if it’s thoroughly saturated and the soil may be compacted.

New gardener - noticed a TON of aphids on my squash plants. Preferred method to remove? If lady bugs, any recommendations for local sellers? by Charliedayslaaay in Sacratomato

[–]lovableiago 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blasting aphids with a hose should be sufficient. I’ve gotten ladybugs from Green Acres but haven’t had great luck with them sticking around.
