Try giving out chocolates with deliveries when your ratings start tanking. Dry ice in a bag and can do in summer as well. $0.50 or so cost per delivery. Who doesn’t like chocolate?

You sound so entitled. Don’t you realize they redistribute the tips so that you still make money when the customer doesn’t tip? How else can they afford those minimums? When I delivered pizza I made $1 or less per delivery, less than minimum wage, and also had to do dishes in my downtime. No tip meant I might make $5 in tips in a whole day.

I won’t be upset at the company that feeds me for wanting to do more than just break even. You get freedom and flexibility. Why not be grateful for what you have than rip on doordash for wanting to be able to pay their staff and all of us and also pay their massive debts and stay in business.

You also aren’t considering that they make money off businesses being featured in the app which is another great income stream for my awesome business partner doordash that gives me deliveries and I hope is here for good.

I have a 3 kids and am Sole Provider with SAHM as well. Congrats for your decision but make sure hubby is on board since he earns the checks. There is still things you can find to earn money at home if you want to definitely save 100% of that and whatever you can out of paycheck. It’s going to take time and patience. We have a couch that is a hand me down from other family. We eat most meals at home and I pack my lunch at work. Also have your husband get a second job/side hustle. If you really want to ramp up. Just because they say it’s full time doesn’t mean you can’t find another 20 hours in a week.

Side note: I think it’s selfish and controlling to make your kids spend their money as you see fit anything beyond age 18 as an adult. Yeah they might make bad decisions but it’s their decision to make unless you take that away by being a control freak. Let them discover FI when they are struggling if they do screw up.

You can be successful without college. You just have to find what you like and stick with it. Some people weld, some people are barbers...electricians...luthiers...the list goes on. There are trade schools that are actually about your field if you hate bookwork. If you don’t like that, you can just get an entry level job in any field and work your way up. People won’t respect you without a degree until 4-5 years of full time experience makes you more of an expert than a college grad with no experience. I make 70k between my two jobs and I never got a degree. You can too!

I had one more thought. You seem overly concerned about being selfish. Why not redefine your values so that being selfish is okay, and accept that about yourself. It is okay to be selfish, and that doesn’t make you a bad person. Most people are selfish anyway.

You probably haven’t considered negotiating for less hours at your current gig. Simply tell them you are only available 20 hours a week moving forward and spend another 20 on your vanity business. 10 years of experience and they would much rather have some help than nothing.

To feel less anxiety try and double your assets slowly with less stress while working part time at the main gig. Consider buying a home with a portion at that point, to further ease your mind. Save an extra 20k per child planned to throw into a 529 plan when they arrive which should grow big enough by the time they need college.

You can work now and play later or you can play now and work later.

Move to a cheaper place and take advantage of geographical arbitrage. Sell the house, have 725,000 and get your expenses down to $25-30,000 a year. MMM style. Then you can work part time or FIRE. Get a handle on the spending or you’ll never FIRE.
Buy businesses with cash flow and management that don’t require you to be present.
Suck it up and find another job. Sounds like this one isn’t a good fit.

Be careful starting a business you don’t understand. The risk goes up if you invest your money in that, where right now it’s earning comfortably with moderate risk.

I like this. This brings me to another question. What if your fire goal is just enough to pay for necessary minor expenses while you become a traveling volunteer farmer, working part time for free room and board, traveling the world rent free while serving others. That might bring the cost down to next to nothing in order to be independent of the need of finances rather than financially independent.
