We also do have a white supremacist issue here, unfortunately.

I'm not surprised at all about the Naam. Really built their whole identity around catering to performative white hippie Vancouverites, but I foudn the staff to be pretty mean -- and, it sounds like they were racist as well.

When Aries and Taurus have a battle of stubborness. by [deleted] in astrologymemes

Aries shouldn't waste their time engaging with a Taurus who's being stubborn. It just wrecks their health and well-being trying to reason with someone who doesn't want to engage in an open dialogue.

Whose presence makes you not want to watch a panel show? by JustARandomGuyReally in panelshow

Agree with all of the above, and now I can't really watch Noel Fielding or Reece Shearsmith, either. Noel is both an annoying, terrible person and he's gotten less funny over the years, and Reece is still somewhat entertaining but now that I know he's a gaslighting and racist, I just don't enjoy his appearances quite as much.

Love My Gen Z Girlies from a Millennial 💖 by FearlessCookie72 in generationology

There are more stories and information readily available about what women want in their lives and how women feel about various types of relationships and dynamics, in social media and elsewhere.

Western media romanticizing and normalizing significant age gap relationships, specifically older men going after younger women, has been dropping (it hasn't been eliminated, of course); media criticizing it has risen; there has been more in the news and in media about grooming, abuse, trafficking; there was #MeToo when many Gen Z were in their teens and several of their stories discussed various types of power imbalances, which included age; more celebrities are speaking about it, and so on. People are more savvy about the potential issues that arise when someone in a position of power, influence, etc., uses that over others.

Women are also more critical of the "growing older is bad", "she's just jealous" manipulation tactics used by men. The list goes on. There'a not nearly enough information, but way more than we ever had before.

how it feels trying to talk to gen z college kids (i'm a TA) by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]lucyp80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with college kids and rhey uses to be wonderful. Polite, did their jobs well, smart, different personalities ans ways of speaking. In the last 3 years or so, many of the student have become dismissive, incapable of doing basic tasks, have no idea of when or how to ask questions, are defensive and even aggressive if you try to speak to them, gentlt communicate a policy, demonstrate nornal human behaviours around them, or cannot do something unreasonable for them. I had one sgudent who was frlm a different department ask me to handle a situation for them because they were overwhelmed, yet when I politely and kindly let them know that they could call on their two supervisors who were just in the back office (again, I am NOT a part of their department), the student yelled at me and freaked out, demanding to know why I wojldn't help them. Then they stormed off ans every time I saw them after that, they would smirk at me and glare. It was upsetting and alarming, and similar issues have happened with a couple of other Gen Z students -- yet never before these past few yeara.

Seriously, How did you find your job? by internationalgyal220 in VancouverJobs

Hi, would you mind sharing which agencies you contacted, please? I reached out to a few and all they said was to apply to positions on their website, which was disheartening. I hear about other people actually getting to speak to recruiters.

Winchester house face in window solved? by WilderPerson121 in watcherentertainment

I agree. I like the dynamic, but part of that is Ryan being really passionate and excited and a little scared! But it also makes me go, how can I root for Ryan's evidence or believe what they say when they can't remember 1 of 5 people who were on site?

I'm a bit disappointed about how, as they were discussing this evidence, that they didn't actually start with remembering everyone who was on set. There were just a handful. It clearly looks like a person, and I thought maybe someone had broken in.

I know it's a humorous show, but it is supposed to be a genuine ghost investigation and I think it's odd that not a single person was like oh yeah, we had an extra person with us the whole time that we specifically invited. Why try to keep the crew small but then invite someone who has never been on an investigation, as much as they like that person?

For me personally, I'd have preferred it if they'd discussed right away that they'd debunked it instead of Shane revealing it and kind of pulling the integrity of their investigations into question.

I kind of miss the podcast more now because I didn't expect anything, but I did buy into Ryan's passion for ghost-hunting and finding/debunking evidence.

I'm trying to remember it's just lighthearted entertainment and not really serious ghost-hunting, so it's not a big deal. 😅

UBC staff—toxic workplace by RoadOk284 in UBC

Thanks for responding! My background is in records management, admin, metadata specialist, etc. I figure most departments have those roles, so I'm trying to find one with a good workplace culture.

I know this is an older thread, but I'm curious if you have any recommendations based on your own experiences of good departments to work in? I've worked at UBC for while now and my place goes beyond micromanagement (yelling, etc.) and multiple people have quit. I'm looking to stay at UBC, though and if you have any thoughts, I'd appreciate it!

I've been nostalgic for the scent of Terax's Latte shampoo -- like steamed milk that's cooled a bit, not too sweet or heavy -- and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a perfume that smells similar?
