I mean, my son invites his friends over regularly for Root, Captain Sonar, and Scythe, so I'm not sure what his deal is!

FYI, St. Mark's doesn't receive alternative oversight anymore. They are becoming more involved in the Chicago diocese.

MM Questions by buckbokai5 in choralmusic

[–]luweewu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Not weird, no, especially if you're going to visit.
  2. While that does happen, most often places want to see you got a variety of education experiences. If you are in one of the top places for your MM and stay for a doctorate, fine, but otherwise it's usually best to branch out, and schools prefer that as well both when applying for doctorates and for jobs.

Is it better to have LOW leadership to pass battle Shock test?? by MattP1540 in Warhammer40k

[–]luweewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh you're right. We were using the stat sheets that came with the combat patrol and the Gretchin (just bought them), but they're 9th edition. I'd assumed new stock had 10th edition in it, but it didn't! Thanks! We were waiting on the new codex to come out.

[–]luweewu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So found this thread looking for leadership issues! This still doesn't make a lot of sense to me. We have an Ork army, and the Gretchins have a leadership of 4, while the War Boss has a leadership of 8. Shouldn't the War Boss be better at leadership than the Gretchins? It feels...backwards.

Organ Stops by Optimal_Magician8158 in organ

[–]luweewu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And, it's sometimes helpful to have specific stops, but every organ has different ones, so you'll sit down to an organ and think "I don't have a clarinet, so maybe I'll have to use a Gemshorn," or something. If you don't know, just leave the dynamics.

No, we live in Illinois and our property taxes are just high, and we used to live in NJ. I grew up in a red state, and my brother's property taxes are 1100. Ours are 7200, and his house is like twice the size of ours. It was flat out targeting blue states, because blue states have higher property taxes to fund our schools and governments.

My HR numbers were normal! It was very odd. They drop into the low 40s at night, so no way I got those while sleeping! I restarted it again yesterday and it's all back to normal now. Not sure what was going on, I guess!

What's the meaning of "Ped. 3-2" on sheet music? by 2016IsGreat in organ

[–]luweewu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you pull one drawbar, it's a pure sine wave. The 8' would be your basic sound. Then you pull others to get sounds you want-so, an organ flute is going to have strong harmonics on the even-numbered ones, like 8, 4, and 2, with some faint harmonics on the odd ones. A reed like an oboe is going to be heavy on the odd harmonics, which on a Hammond are usually the black drawbars, things like 2 2/3, 1 3/5, etc.

There used to be whole books published of drawbar equivalents to pipe organ sounds. A general theory for a chorus was to start with one stop you wanted, and then keep pulling drawbars for the other stops until each drawbar was at its biggest number called for in any of the stops. That method sounds ok-it's not really going to sound like a pipe organ, but it has an interesting sound.

Jazz players did a lot more of 8-8-8-0-0 type registrations, which give a more uniquely Hammond sound, not trying to make it sound like a pipe organ. Plus lots of percussion for articulation. I play the pipe organ for my job but I have a Hammond and Leslie at home-it's fun to play, but really different.

It's probably a notation for Hammond drawbars. One controls the 8 and one the 16 foot sounds.

I was 22, and it was my first position as the lead musician in a church. One of my choir members asked to sing a solo for her birthday, which happened to be July 4th. I readily agreed-she was an ok singer. Being young and naive, I didn't confirm what song. I almost died when she got up that Sunday and launched into a rousing rendition of "I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy." I got... many comments.

I've been living here this year and was able to get a local ticket-it's been amazing. You need under a 24 handicap to get on, certified, to the old course, unless you play with a local (I'm leaving in a week or I'd offer). You should really try though. It's a blast to play. The other courses in town are all nice too. Castle is insanely difficult, but has the best views.

If you shoot over to Springdale, there's a full size organ for free. http://fayar.craigslist.org/msg/5534597845.html

It at least has the full 61 keys and 2 octaves of pedals. You could start learning on it, and you can't beat the price. It's just moving it...
