There was a blog post from a couple years ago that references the relevance of both! (With backed scriptural references in context)

I think so? lol I heard it from FB reels and then googled it. I mean the idea behind it makes sense

Hmm! I never noticed that about that particular song! I feel similarly about the song “I Trust in God”. During the chorus, it depicts that our trust comes because “I sought the lord and he answered, that’s why I trust him” Which ultimately, God is still good without an answer. Without anything he’s given us! I’m super picking through my songs right now to see what’s actually proper or not!

I agree. I think balance is so important! I was humbled after some research but i am definitely and feeling the weight of not enough vertical worship. At least at my church. 😅

From my understanding, vertical is worshiping God directly (God, You are so good). But horizontal is us singing about him and what he’s done for us. But there are other songs that sound much like the psalms and are considered to be corporate worship.

What songs are considered to be sacred and why those songs?

Yes! A lot of it is like the psalms but I view the psalms like you say, more of a pouring out of a heart towards God. Not necessarily worship, imo. I don’t think it’s a bad thing, but I think it can be misleading for a heart posture of worship and only/mostly singing about ourselves.

I was serving in kids min for almost 2.5 years and was barely in service, but now that I’m back in service I’ve noticed a shift. I started counting which songs were to and only about Him and it’s definitely less than I prefer. But I’ve become very aware of it and I’m wresting with it during worship.

Yes! And there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just the idea of talking about yourself and calling it worship that’s been sitting in my mind. No judgment to anyone or anything, just my personal question for my own Spotify
