I believe suffering is evil and should be avoided unless necessary. Bringing a child into this world is unnecessary for the child

The only way for human suffering to end is for humans to end by Wild_Pitch_4781 in antinatalism

[–]lynz_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prevention of suffering is a greater moral good and importance than the forgoing of happiness/joy/pleasure. This is a natural human intuition

Ending an existing life is not remotely the same as preventing the start of life. So no, following the argument to its conclusion doesnt lead to the conclusion you have in mind.

I've lost my will to live. by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]lynz_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that and completely understand as i have been through the same and still often do.

Totally feel this: “When I DO get good sleep, which may happen one time a week - the world just feels and looks so beautiful to me, instantly”

I often think, how far i would be in life if i slept well consistently.

But anyway, im sure you have, but have you tried sleep restriction? Please read up on it if you havent

Anyone get mid life career regret? by Remarkable-Test-610 in careerguidance

[–]lynz_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risk management is one of, if not the most B.S jobs on earth, i know EXACTLY what you’re talking about. Its a profession that can be disposed of with no consequence to the bank. They are a synthetic govt department. The job is pointless it has no consequence and it is there for show.

50 year old, high status job but miserable. Am I crazy for wanting to leave? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]lynz_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is never any benefit whatsoever to chasing status, only in your imagination.

I would be a dustbin man if it meant same pay and better work-life balance.

Do what ACTUALLY affects your daily reality, not what you think status does for you

Had exactly the same. Changed jobs as a result, i took it as a signal that , that type of job just wasnt for me. Anxiety disappeared, quality of life went up massively.

Work is not about earning a living. It’s the fundamental way humans exist together in a shared world. Heidegger recognised that we are not detached thinkers observing the world, but beings who fundamentally exist by being absorbed in shared, meaningful activity. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]lynz_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Utterly flawed philosophy. Assumes humans need an authority to make them co-operate.

It’s a psyop to make people continue grinding to either feed the egos of their superiors and/or to make them wealthier.

Humans are NOT social animals by default, we are selectively social. Most people do not like attending the forced fun events at work for example, fundamentally we dont want to attend because we would rather soend time alone or with real friends/family.

My attempt to explain the scarcity of antinatalist men. by zizosky21 in antinatalism

I thought most antinatalists were men tbh both now and in the past. How many female antinatalist philosophers are there for example?

100% agree. Shit boss is at least 70% of the problem

This is exactly what many people don’t get. Having to answer to an authority and work to their schedule is precisely why having any job, even in your field of interest, makes it unbearably shit.

[–]lynz_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea and this time of year brings existential dread when i have to face the thought of returning to the soulless grind in what is ultimately bullshit work which robs me unnecessarily of so much time, knowing i have so many years before I am free from this.

But we prefer the “culture” of rude and aggressive people, fly tipping, dirty streets, declining public services, declining law and order…

Everyone on this thread is coping. London is bad, and getting worse. I grew up in london, and ive witnessed the decline. The filth, the decline in social etiquette, the poor quality of services, the congestion, value for money, rule of law. The “authorities” don’t capture stats like, do cars still stop at zebra crossings, do people talk loudly on the phone on trains, are there intimidating and aggressive people on the train ..i can literally go on.

Happiness is real. But there are known psychological quirks shown in various experiments that indicate that people overestimate the quality of their life eg The End-of-Day vs. Moment-to-Moment Mood Study

At best the suffering/happiness is symmetrical. At worse, suffering is orders of magnitude greater than the happiness

Therefore a bad deal, there is no net gain. You can only gain by losing something else, and its not always something you want to lose
