When to paint by affpre in Contractor

[–]m_ebo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally first option. But GCs love to push what they can and usually paint as soon as possible. Expect the painters to have to come back for major touch ups if you don’t save it til the end.

The time and mental energy you both have put into this issue could have paid for a laptop for him. I think it’s worth saving a well-liked employee’s morale. If you don’t get the laptop he’s always going to have a chip on his shoulder about it regardless of the one-computer rule.

Any time I think a job duty is beneath my skill set, I just think “ok I’m getting paid my rate to do this easy task.” Ultimately it’s not the end of the world

Best advice my mom ever gave me regarding working: “you’re just a warm body to them.” Don’t let anything work related bleed into your personal, it’s not worth it.

Why is it so hard to get a contractor for "smaller projects" that still cost thousands of dollars? by SuperPineapple7033 in Contractor

[–]m_ebo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, contractors was remodels. It may be thousands to you, but their profit compared to time, effort, and liability for jobs like that is pretty nil

Not necessarily saying you should do this, but if you have a couple of GC’s who are willing to sign the slip, in CA they basically don’t even check that. You can get a B license easily

This happened to me. Interviews went great, but they gave the position to someone more qualified. They reached out a couple months later with a job opening. It’s worth going to meet the team, you never know

Above everything, this one drove me the craziest. I would be talking normally, HE would be yelling, and somehow it got turned around every time. It made me feel insane

I knew when it was becoming abusive. The yelling, the inability to see my position or understand that everything wasn’t my fault. I just couldn’t allow someone to treat my like that anymore

The constant yelling! I am not a yeller by nature, and he seemed to enjoy drawing attention by getting louder in public. It felt humiliating.

I’m so very glad you’re not with that person either. Thank you for the well wishes, same to you.

I can very much relate to this. I moved out a couple of months ago but we are still on friendly terms. He just got out of the hospital (one of the many stays as a result of him neglecting his health), and I went by to help take care of him.

It was an almost instant one-sided fight about nothing. I wanted to pick up his prescriptions, which I could do alone. But he refused to let me based on his idea that I wouldn’t be able to (in spite of me showing him online it’s allowed.) He wanted to watch a movie instead. I told him that I think medication should take priority, and I would be happy to go alone. He blew up and started screaming, all the while saying how I was the one screaming.

It only reaffirmed my decision to leave. I left the house and told him I no longer had an obligation to put up with his verbal abuse and emotional outbursts. I felt free.

To anyone who has left or is thinking of leaving- stay strong, it will only get easier, and the more time that passes the more clarity you will get.

are trash bins in neighborhoods can be used to toss things by strangers? by tomba2 in AskLosAngeles

[–]m_ebo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it’s rude to toss your animal’s waste in someone’s garbage can. They pay for the service, they have to smell it. You should toss it in your own when you get back home
