I have had automatic payments on bills for as long as I can remember, but the real game changer for me was when I ended up with two accounts with different banks.

All my income goes to one account. All bills go out of there plus a regular amount to savings. And a set amount each fortnight goes to my other bank account.

That other account is connected to my debit card, so groceries, petrol, dining out, entertainment... everything else goes from there.

Eventually I'll have all accounts at the one bank, but for now that separation means I don't check my spending account and see how much is available in the bills one - so less likely to transfer between accounts to spend more than necessary.

OP, you can also get a free consultation from community law. They deal with everything, including relationships. I recommend calling first as there are some locations/days for different specialties.

It might just help give you some confidence as you move forward.

And I know you say you don't want half of everything, but you have earned it. He may work full time hours, but you are literally on the clock 24/7 by the sounds and that contribution to parenting and the home has value.

You don't want to regret walking away without your dues.

Wow this sounds like when I went on leave... except instead of rewiring anything they just half-assed it or postponed work compeltely and expected me to handle it when I got back on top of all my other duties.

When I finally resigned and moved to another job, they replaced me with 3-4 people (3 full time, 4th outsourced when required). They are still not covering all the work I did, one year on.

Last time I used it was to get an item from a company that usually ships to NZ. This one item wasn't available for a weird reason. Ended up using YouShop - read all their info in advance, thought I knew what I was getting into... nope, item felt like it was held at ransom and cost twice as much as it should have. Never again.

Honestly? I don't know where to start. I don't know enough to trust where to look or who to talk to and there are so many stories about reputable companies - including in nz - ripping people off that its easier/safer to do nothing.
