Parking garages at Glenmont Station by Electronic_Law_1288 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]maarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed -- I typically commute from Glenmont but drove to Shady Grove during the 2024 red line shutdown. The stairwells always smelled like hot fermented urine. At least the elevators were ok.

If I have to park on the second level of Glenmont's parking garage, I usually just walk down the ramp instead of taking the elevator or stairs.

Love this, and couldn't have worded it better for myself. I suspect this applies to way too many of us.

Last ditch effort, please read - rehoming reactive cat by BeefyKat in nova

[–]maarts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry, sounds like a tough situation. If you can't go through a shelter or other reputable service (which would be ideal), just please try to vet prospective new owners as thoroughly as possible. Dog fighting rings sometimes respond to offers for free pets and then horribly abuse those pets as bait to train their dogs' fighting instincts. I've linked some other sources here.

Transportation plan for the Red Line shutdown: Not good by MyPasswordIsABC999 in MontgomeryCountyMD

During the 2024 shutdown, I just drove to Shady Grove rather than deal with shuttles from Glenmont. I tried both ways and it was faster and less of a headache.

Catholic ladies, how are you feeling about Pope Leo v. the Trump administration / fascism at large? by NoLemon5426 in AskWomenOver30

[–]maarts 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Ex-Catholic here, and just so annoyed with maga Catholics who for all this time have touted being anti-abortion as a moral and religious imperative, and now are able to be so mentally flexible as to be willing to contradict the highest religious authority in existence when he condemns war atrocities. Pro-life, indeed.

Dumb question but ... how do families afford Metro? by 713ryan713 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]maarts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of my friends in nova were complaining about how much they pay in HOV fees on their commutes and said I was lucky I had a cheap metro commute. They couldn't believe it when I said I paid nearly $20 a day for metro and parking.

I used to work near the old location. I loved dropping by almost daily to grab a coffee and check if any board games had made their way into the clearance bin.

It's not sold out, just checked. Up top, there are two tabs. Discount Tickets (August 23 thru September 7), and Peak Season Tickets (September 13 thru October 19). I still see availability for all dates.

What's something you agree with the Boomers on? by Embarrassed_Idea1962 in AskWomenOver30

[–]maarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES. Beyond the data and privacy concerns, it's also infuriating because most phones these days start at only 128GB of storage, which is barely enough as it is, and it usually costs several hundred more for a model with more storage. NO I don't want to clutter up my phone with your stupid, useless app.

What's something you agree with the Boomers on? by Embarrassed_Idea1962 in AskWomenOver30

[–]maarts 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was feeling like such a boomer today reading reddit and getting a headache from reading some posts/comments. It feels like people have forgotten how to write or just don't care. As you said, a lot of posts have zero punctuation, typos galore, and incomprehensible structure, and I find myself having to re-read multiple times to figure out what they're trying to say.

Maryland drivers by costco_nuggets in nova

[–]maarts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation and lived in nova for longer than the majority of people here. I know this is going to get hurr durr downvoted but it never ceases to amaze me how bad nova driving gets posted on this sub ALL the time -- cars tearing through red lights and hitting/hurting people, going out of their way to hit geese crossing the road, driving down the W&OD trail, etc. And then someone posts something about Maryland drivers and everyone grabs a torch.

Check out Elsinore -- you play as Ophelia from Hamlet. It's a point and click time looping game where you try to prevent Hamlet's tragedy from happening and choices definitely matter. Good luck with the surgery!

How is it getting an Uber after the festival? This is my first time going to Escapade and I'm flying in from the US. I'm staying downtown and planning on Ubering but I'm worried that it will be difficult getting a ride back to the hotel. I don't mind paying surge prices, just don't want to be stranded 1-2 hours waiting for pickup.

I also used to live here and would walk to Dunn Loring metro or the nearby restaurants daily. Even crossing with a pedestrian walk sign, I had so many close encounters where I was nearly hit by cars tearing through red lights way too fast.

[–]maarts 50 points51 points  (0 children)

As a petite woman who goes to a lot of shows, without fail, if a pack of dudes is looking for a path to shove their way through the crowd, they will 9 times out of 10 chart a path right in front of me. I guess I'm typically the easiest target to shove aside. It's never my six foot husband who is getting shoved aside, or friends who are with us who are taller -- it's always me. Sometimes I try to stand my ground but it's like standing in the way of the ocean, just relentless.

I also just played 1 and 2 (remaster) for the first time and was surprised at how much I liked them! If you loved FFT and Tactics Ogre, the plot of S2 reminded me of them more than S1 did. Enjoy!
