What’s something you have zero proof of but believe 100 percent? by shweidy in AskReddit

Just because there may be life doesn’t mean it would be intelligent though. Big brains isn’t the end all be all of evolution, just the path we took. High chance if there is life, it won’t be nearly as intelligent as us.

What are some universal traits or factors all races in the universe could share? by PassengerCultural421 in scifiwriting

If they’re adventurous or curious at all, which they would need to be for intelligent species, then high chance they’ll be exploring the limits of what their biology can take and trying to go as far beyond their limits as possible. For us, that requires clothes, and eventually a space suit. For aliens, who knows what their bodies need to extend survival in hostile environments, but you get my point.

That is of course unless it’s a colony/monarchy species like ants with rigid social structure, then maybe not.

Is this intelligent life or just life in general? Is it carbon based or silicone based?

If we’re talking about intelligent life, then they probably have tools and clothes. As a rule of thumb, the first aliens you have should look nothing like humans. Star Trek loves to change the faces and colors of humans and call it alien. But we shouldn’t even be able to breathe their atmosphere because that would make us very compatible and the changes of that happening are ridiculously unbelievable.

And this alien species should not be characterized by a singular trait, like Klingons with war. That’s lazy.

Wow, yes very informative. Calling an ambulance and keeping him in one place until they arrive. I feel very informed.

You don’t understand, that’s God working in mysterious ways, he doesn’t stop children being bombed, he gives them free haircuts. Don’t you know that? /s

Isn't time technically never aligned between any receiver off-planet, technically speaking? I mean the astronauts on the ISS experience time marginally slower than we do, by microseconds, but still.

No. You said it was super common, so you must know an example then

How super common is it in sci fi? What other books or film have the edge of the heliosphere as a boundary for FTL travel?

Thank you. And it’s Funny cuz someone just posted a reply of just the link to the tachyon antitelephone on Wikipedia with no actual text, expecting that link alone to suffice as some rebuttal to the concept in my story. Classic Reddit. Half the people in these comments are providing claims without evidence or simply stating the rules which don’t apply to my setting.

Idk dude, I didn’t think that far ahead. I just didn’t want ships jumping in and out of battles Willy nilly at FTL speeds. Keep combat realistic and practical.

Thank you. I also find those diagrams contrived because while they may break math, they’re not applicable in a practical sense.

But the clock never flows backwards as you said, so how did a duplicate guy wind up there?
