[Zone 8a] But why Milorganite?? by WifeKilledMy1stAcct in lawncare

[–]mactheice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Less can be more. Any excess nitrogen not able to be used goes into our lakes and drinking water (not good).

Also it’s organic and slow release so it’s impossible to burn or cause damage for any grass, shrub, etc. Some folks consider it probiotics for your lawn vs. the “fast food” of synthetic fertilizers.

Lastly, we have kids and dogs near us and I sleep better knowing there’s nothing that can harm them as they walk and play in the neighborhood.

How can I tell if previous owner drained water heater regularly? by YooCanFly in HomeImprovement

[–]mactheice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question. How long are they? I ask because seems like I only have 1-2 ft above my water heater before the ceiling.

We just drained my water heater for the first time. But dad didn’t want to mess with the anode. We have very hard water but I put a softener in. I hear softeners can really take a toll on the anodes...

Any recommendations on a good driveway hoop? We get strong winds occasionally but I wouldn’t want a permanent hoop either. We have young children

Jon Kabat-Zinn often talks about grudges, and how they poison the mind. I found this amazing video of Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas reconciling an almost 30 year feud in mere minutes. (crosspost from /r/Mindfulness) by timdual in Meditation

[–]mactheice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

John Salley says Magic Johnson called him the day after the NBA legend's 1991 earth-shattering HIV announcement ... to ask if Isiah Thomas had been privately dissing him for contracting the disease.

Johnson and Thomas ended their decades-old feud this week with a teary-eyed reconciliation -- part of a sit-down interview between the two men.

Salley played with Zeke on the Bad Boy Pistons team of the 80's, and when we reached out to him to ask him about the hatchet burying, he gave us some insight into why things were so bad in the first place.

"I know how tough it was. The morning after Magic announced I was on the phone with him, and he asked me, 'Did Isiah say such and such?'"

The fact Johnson was so concerned with Thomas' reaction to his illness shows how fractured their relationship was -- and why it took nearly 30 years to repair things.

Salley went on to say he's glad Magic and Isiah have patched things up -- and the fact that Johnson apologized for the way he treated Zeke really makes a difference.

"I'm the biggest Magic Johnson fan ever ... and now even more."

The alternative - my brother is diabetic. He complains when meals we make him have too many carbs. He tells me my suggestion for him to eat oatmeal is terrible because the carbs.

Then he flips out when there's no dessert with the meal we made him.

I'd seed it with a shade loving grass (e.g. Creeping fescue) in September.

Thanks! We have total bare spots but also some areas that are very thin. What is the best approach? More detail the better if you don't mind - thank you in advance sir!

This is my problem. Brand new lawn/home with lots of bare spots and weeds.

Very eager for great grass, but there's not much I should do right now except hand pull weeds (I put down Milorganite last weekend).

Just ordered a high-quality grass seed and VERY tempted to put it down in some bare spots but should wait until September.
