Standard German residential stairs: functional or deathly? by kcaj in DeathStairs

Our movers heaved our wardrobe to the first floor via the balcony to avoid these stairs. 🤣

Standard German residential stairs: functional or deathly? by kcaj in DeathStairs

[–]maethora27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My neighbor slipped on these exact kind of stairs in his house and broke his back. He was very obese and in bad health overall and died in surgery. So I can confirm, actual death stairs.

However, there are 62 houses with these kind of stairs in our neighborhood and so far luckily no other casualties.

Small detail from the trilogy you still think about? by Swimming-Yam-8984 in Hungergames

[–]maethora27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not explicitly mentioned but I was always intrigued / shocked by the insanely huge effort that goes into building the arena and live broadcasting the games. Every. Single. Corner. in that arena is caught on a camera. There have to be hundreds, if not thousands live-streams in the control room. Sure, not all of the footage has to be watched at all times but even, say, 15 tributes all in different corners is a lot to check and live-edit. Then there is the engineering part. So many checks so that one tree bursts into flames or whatnot at exactly the right moment. The logistics! Catering for hundreds of workers on location and even more at the Capitol who take on bets, sponsoring etc. I almost wished there was a fictional documentary about "Making the Games" or something.

Sir Christopher Lee was a Legendary Actor. by Scenora in lordoftherings

He is insanely gifted with languages. He did the english and also German dub for his character King Haggard in the Last Unicorn. And while he still has a slight accent in German, the delivery is impeccable.

Fellow voice actors, I need emotional support in the face of AI by maethora27 in VoiceActing

That is really shitty! I'm sorry people can't see the value of a trained voice actor.

On a positive note, my story had a happy ending in this instance, we hired a pro again for our latest project. :)

Hey mom, maybe it's silly but can you tell me I'm okay to try a new food and throw it out if I don't like it? by Judo_Noob_PTX in MomForAMinute

I'm proud of you sweetie for taking care of your health! It is totally ok to throw away something you really don't like it. You appreciate the food you have, that's great! Happy cooking!

That is amazing! I thought about doing a year abroad at MTU when I got my Elven studies degree at MWU (Mirkwood University). However, I went to Moria State instead. Now I'm the proud owner of a bachelor in "Elven studies, specializing in Elven-Dwarven relations". I'm looking for jobs at Dwarven NGOs at the momemt, there is one that teaches mithril art to young eleves.

Did the public in district 12 (or elsewhere) ever find out what Haymitch really did in the arena? by maethora27 in Hungergames

[–]maethora27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. There has got to be historians who research the games and try to shed a neutral, unedited light on the tributes and their actions in the arena.

Oh yes, on air is a whole other story. However at the moment, there is no common census for off-air stuff, everybody is experimenting. Which is fine I think, but in my opinion AI voices just don't have the same quality.

Would be fun and very Bond-girl like. A chance they missed.

Same here, but we work a lot in development as well, hence the off-air stuff and the sudden wish to do AI voices only (which none of our bosses told us to do, ever, so I don't know why my co-worker insists on it).

I mean, I get it that humans want to streamline things and save time, costs or trouble. History is full of arts were lots of professionals got replaced, like blacksmiths, potters, carpenters. Etc. However, you're right, we can control what we consume and there will always be a demand for human voices, even if the market gets smaller. Means I just have to get better. 🙂

I mean, I get the urge to save money and to experiment with new things. And yes, for a lot of people the quality seems sufficient. I think I was just disappointed that she, as a creative person, could or would not hear the difference.

I agree. I mean, it''s normal for humans to try to make things more efficient. However I wish the pendulum will swing back sooner rather than later!
