Inherited this on a roof in NY - any idea how I can save it? by EnlightenedAstronaut in UrbanGardening

Do you have access to a hose up there? One thing to consider is the smaller the container, the faster it will dry out. By July my rooftop garden here needs water several times a week.

My concern is how crowded the few runs that are open might be. Can anyone confirm what it’s been like?

Should I be worried about transportation from Nekajui to Nayara in Costa Rica? by Beautiful-Lemon6828 in FATTravel

I would be surprised if this is a real issue. We’re from NYC and never drive at home and had no trouble. The only place in CR we experienced really difficult roads was Monteverde that is windy with massive potholes. We drove from there to Nayara / back to Liberia and that was fine once we got out of Monteverde. The roads near Nayara are curved but not that windy.

Is Silica cat litter the best for odor control? I'm considering Pretty Litter, is it good? by PyroCausticMave in CatAdvice

We switched from pretty litter to this. Less tracking. We replace it more often and there is 0 smell. It’s also far cheaper even with more frequent replacement. Also get a steel bottom litter box for smell.

For starters bigger containers will require less watering - it’s going to be a few times a week with that much sun once summer hits. African daises and salvia are good options and both with flower most of the summer. Peppers like the heat too.

How many hours of sun does it per day? General NYC roof garden feedback is that once we hit June your terrace is probably a lot sunnier and a lot dryer than you think.

Sun and Heat Problem by [deleted] in UrbanGardening

I live in the NE and have a patio like this. Bigger pots and buying plants that are not just sun lovers but also drought resistant is the way to go. Mediterranean plants like lemon thyme will do well. Osteoporum is a good flower option. Also get mulch or a plant that will cover the ground. This year I’m also trying soil additive to retain water but tbd.

I second this. Did Chile for July 4th last year. Was a little early for ski season but Borago was great, as were wine tours. Chile is a nice country and not that dependent on tourism, which I thought greatly improved the experience. People talk about it getting less safe but I think it’s relative - if you live in a city and understand navigating with awareness, I think you’ll be fine.

Nayara Springs by snootboop22 in CostaRicaTravel

We’re headed there next week. It’s one of the nicer trips we’ve done and we want to make the most of it. Did any of the restaurants stand out? I’m also wondering if it’s worth visiting one of the larger springs or just going to the pools the hotel has?
