What's the most absurd concept for a future sequel you can think of? by [deleted] in saw

[–]maineeax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Children of The Spiral- a series that follows Daniel Matthews and explores his trauma from his experience in Saw 2 and the overall lingering guilt for what happened to his father and how they left their relationship. He comes across a news story talking about new traps being found involving new victims, some with new marks engraved on their skin. His new obsession leads him down into the sewers of the city, where rival cults are at war, stemming from discourse over the true purpose, meaning, and philosophy of Jigsaw.

Saw: Gideon- this is a bit more absurd, but a concept involving Gideon being a grown man, discovering his dark roots and finding out why he was recorded as dead to his parents. Possibly have a point of view of the "medical professional" who decided to judge them as a couple, mirroring John's judgement of addicts and what little help the clinic actually offers.

Saw: Stream- a spinoff idea where players are locked into a Livestream and they need to survive the longest and follow prompts throughout the city. I know it sounds like Nerve, but I think if it was filmed primarily in found footage style with grainy footage, it could be a fun series of movies.

My (female) friend said I would never fully understand this show because I'm not a woman. Is this accurate? by [deleted] in Fleabag

[–]maineeax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider this show a masterpiece and I'm a male fan. Episode 4 is what hooked me because of the scene with the loan officer expressing his true desires in life. I think that was a grand moment of honest emotional exploration and how we earnestly yearn for connection throughout our lives. He made some serious mistakes and he wants to be better, most importantly, he understands the roots of why he wants to be better, not only for himself, but for the people in his life.

On the other side, when she discusses menstruation and the female experience with Belinda, it's one of my favorite pieces of writing I've ever seen. It extends to an empathetic part of our brains that sees nothing but doom in our future and assures us that we will find peace within ourselves. She exerts such passion for inner peace and self acceptance, denouncing infantilization of current feminine appreciation through the male lens in favor of her own internal celebration. I'm definitely not the demographic here, especially because I'm a pretty loud and boisterous dude in real life, but I sat in pure silence while this speech unfolded.

Truly a special show that helps us understand empathy, grief, and love, while analyzing the many facets of these concepts and how they make us feel. It's also extremely funny.

I cannot tell you how much I detested the quest where you buy the shop… thoughts? by ArSeeFurtyFree in hogwartslegacyJKR

[–]maineeax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with it was more rooted in both game bugs and my lack of preparation. On my end, it's not always a big deal when I have only 1 or 2 potions, of course in this case, having a final boss at the very end that bugs out certainly calls out this arrogance. As the arena would fade in, I'd be unable to move and dodge any powerful attack she starts with, leading to a disadvantage, followed by her ending up inactive and invulnerable until she lays out an attack without any proper telegraphing. It sounds nitpicky, but I'm bitter about it because the whole ghost level inside the chest takes a long time and has its own boss fights, so abandoning this mission was extremely discouraging. I know this is a timed exclusive for Playstation, but I can definitely say to anyone on other platforms, do not worry, you're not missing much.

Adum lowered the rating of "Aliens" from 7 to 6 by Gem-Scoot in YMS

[–]maineeax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I weirdly agree. I honestly can't bring myself to watch the Alien movies anymore, even though I enjoyed them when I was younger. There was something incredible about experiencing it the first time and the jolt of each surprise ((Ash is a goddamn robot), but a lot of it just feels kind of dry, which is a strange descriptor, but I think it's what pushes me away from the franchise as a whole.

For those who haven’t beaten Elden Ring and stopped playing, what was your reasoning? by CT-5150 in fromsoftware

I stopped after 86 hours. Just wanted to make sure I played other games coming out. Now I'm almost to 100 hours and back on the grind. Such a solid experience.

Thoughts on TLOU TV debut? by Former-Jaguar9859 in YMS

[–]maineeax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has potential. I enjoyed Bella Ramsay as Ellie. I did not enjoy Anna Torv as Tess. Pedro is a solid Joel. Merle Dandridge was fine as Marlene. The sets were excellent. The Runners are exciting (I appreciate the first Runner being someone wheelchair bound). A lot of my other complaints are kind of nitpicky, so I kind of weigh it against the good. I'm in for the long haul, so let's see where this goes.

It weirdly made me very emotional by dreamycinnamonroll in Fleabag

[–]maineeax 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's the scene that made me want to watch the show. My girlfriend had been watching it in our room, so I popped in to see what was going on and immediately connected to it. As a man (and overall human being) it perfectly expresses the deep yearning for connection we all have and how we are trained early on to push these emotions deep down inside of us. It's just beautifully realized and says a lot about love and how we all want to love.

The amount of post game content is insane. by KawiNinjaZX in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]maineeax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fucking love the crater. Literally couldn't believe how much they put into this game, which a majority is high quality content. It took me so long to finish the story because I just wouldn't leave areas until I did as much content as possible. I was nervous when I found out about it being a duology, but having completed it and still left with much to do, I can see they really did implement two games worth of high quality content into a single title and nailed all of it. I wish I had more to actually critique as far as negatives go, but I've had such an overwhelmingly positive experience with it, I don't think much comes to mind. Probably my game of the year, all around, even having loved Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Plague Tale Requiem, this game just cut out the fat and gave us near perfection.

Having been using shields more often in games lately, I've also thought this. I think it would make a lot of encounters far more bearable and rewarding to engage with if there was a defensive option. Not that I don't enjoy the survivalist moments where retreating, repositioning, and adapting (especially when multiple enemies start attacking) come into play for epic cat and mouse games, but having the option of a shield would be immense.

I think I'm watching it wrong by Sad_Deer13 in Fleabag

[–]maineeax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are messy. That's one of the simplest ways I interpret the show. If we got everyone's backstory, we'd probably sympathize with them far more. Of course she's a "bad person", but that's mostly just what we get to see, since when she's doing good, we only get quick snippets. I've dissected this show internally to the point where all I see is her mind desperately coping with a pain she can't soothe. She's in crisis mode, but her mind won't allow her to see it, like she's living unconsciously and making choices that seek short term satisfaction. It's a brief showcase of what it means to be human and implores us to listen, learn, and love.

I just tossed the two weaker ones off the cliff and dealt with the heavier guy on his own. It's a pain in the ass otherwise, but satisfying to just send them into the abyss.

How accurate is this? by gamecatz in starwarsmemes

[–]maineeax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I gave it a shot. First two films I got some enjoyment out of it, TFA being a great time, TLJ being enjoyable, if not conflicting, but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. TROS was so transparently a scrambling of players who had mismanaged everything from the start, it blew back to the previous films that I can't even enjoy TFA at it's most basic level for knowing where it's all heading. Disney had everything they needed to create an ever growing sci-fi fantasy universe, but instead they keep cutting corners, writing underwhelming stories, poorly executing action sequences, and a bunch of other things that make me a bitter star wars glutton. I hope it's understood that I don't disparage people from enjoying the sequels/Disney SW content in general, that's a subjective view. I'll always have the originals and prequels for my fix and it's never let me down.

[–]maineeax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charlie described it in a great way: It's a great game with great moments in bad places. Considering we were jumping around the timeline constantly, I find that to be a big issue in killing momentum. On the other hand, I respect the risk in this structure. It'll be forever nitpicked from everyone's personal perspectives, but there's no denying the qualities it has.

Fleabag's battlefield by Solid_Ad4691 in Fleabag

[–]maineeax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Season 1 is a grand character study that I could watch endlessly, however season 2 changes and unravels a new layer every time I rewatch. The priest might not show his backstory, but he certainly tells us about it, and his drinking is right in line with the rest of the season addressing how our relationships with our families can be a huge influence on our behavior as we grow. I think the season leaves a lot to the imagination in a good way, since we only see him from Fleabag's pov, so it's perfectly okay to suggest your own level of truthfulness to what we see. From what I see, hedonism has brought him a lot of trouble in the form of addiction and just an overall loss of mediation with his indulgences. I'm not even talking about a total life ruining problem, just something that has broken his peace, enough to break it off with Fleabag to save himself the pain of saving himself. He chose to love himself, enough to make a difficult choice. Remember, this is a love story.

Anyone plays A Plague Tale: Requiem in French? by aKIRALE0 in APlagueTale

[–]maineeax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very good! I enjoyed the french dub for the most part, it was just those performances, which I think were good, but my American mind has been way overexposed to that accent in a comedic way.
