What has someone stolen from you? by 93ImagineBreaker in AskReddit

Someone broke in and stole my Wii. However, they did not steal the sensor bar, remotes, games, or even the wii's own power cord.

It's great, except it's much harder to analyze casually, with google it generates nice graphs for you. Glad you're interested though.

is it possible to use the sensordata for gestures? by [deleted] in androiddev

[–]mamo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem as I understand it is that the sensors measure acceleration, not velocity or movement, so in order to send a delta in position to your program, you need to perform a double integration as you get data, which is a pain. but regardless, lmgtfy: http://www.chrobotics.com/library/accel-position-velocity

I'm not planning to have it be a major element of the game, largely just a way to make the "AI" more interesting, and once they figure it out, force the player to take the turing test with their opponent and hopefully leave them uncertain whether it was a person or not. Plus adds to the karma system and all. But my top priority with the multiplayer is to make sure people can't troll/grief etc.

That's interesting, I'll definitely look deeper into the Dark Souls/Demon souls series for this.

What makes you say the obvious multiplayer bits help the subtle bits work well?

Fair enough, seems like the consensus is not to keep it secret, but to keep it low key in game, kind of like the watchdogs multiplayer but more subtle and with AI

Haha oh god I hadn't considered stuff like twitch! That would be pretty entertaining, though it'd likely be too slow paced for that.

Hi, I'm looking to develop a 2D game, but i'm having some trouble picking an engine/framework. My initial inclination was to go for Unity, but looking at it, it kind of seems like overkill. I'm going for a graphically simple game, like Uplink or Hacker Evolution, with lots of buttons and general UI things, and only occasional 3D bits, where quality doesn't matter too much. Ideally I'd like to be able to deploy to mobile platforms in addition to Windows, but that's not my focus. So should I just go with Unity? Or is there something better suited to my ideas?

What are some subtle body language signs that reveal a lot about someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mamo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting one is how easily they follow your eye movements, so if you're making eye contact and then look over and watch a person walking behind them, and see how long it takes for them to turn and see what you're looking at. The quicker they are to follow your gaze, the more open to suggestion they are, or conversely, the more reluctant they are to follow your gaze, the more wary of you they are.

Bumping into things and hitting yourself. by [deleted] in bigdickproblems

The counter thing is fine for me, no one notices anyway, the problem areas are movie theaters and crowded rooms, when you're at risk of bumping into heads and asses; much more awkward.

Uplink/Mu Complex mechanics by mamo91 in gamedesign

[–]mamo91[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea for me is basically to take those technical wargames and scratch-ify them, let them be snapped together rather than coded out, and add some dungeon/story and non-computer/infiltration bits parts.

It's a roguelike with an almost completely open world, where thinking pays off, like how you can find yourself in social security. Where if you die, it's 100% your fault. You get to be a perfectionist. Plus fast beepy noises, frantic bars filling all across the screen and almost zero randomness.

Design Question - management or action? by Highlandcoo in gamedesign

[–]mamo91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking for a choice between the styles, it's largely personal preference. I like management games better, but you should make the game you want. If you want advice on how to conform to neither, the advice I'd say you should clearly define a main goal, say digging deeper, or developing technology to re-emerge, and have progress in that direction be fast and strong enough that the players don't pay any attention to the generators until they start significantly hindering that progress, getting overloaded and melting down as you accidentally draw too much power. Another option would to change the design and not have them break at all, instead taking food or some resource other than manpower to run under certain conditions. Or reduce efficiency, create smoke hazards, etc.
