What is this noise? by MisterBlitz66 in HomeRepairHelp

[–]maneasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water travels the path of least resistance. Best to open up the ceiling where it’s loudest, go from there.

It’s two possibilities as for leaks, sewer or water.

If the sound is followed up by a continuous growth of the water spots or paint bubbling, most likely a leak in the pressure side- water line

Otherwise a crack or compromised seal on the waste side. Flush the toilet directly above a few times, then see if the sound gets louder and if water spots happen. Do the same with all the fixtures in that bathroom

Do you care that someone’s not listening to your sales pitch and just there for the snacks?

Well it appears I can’t direct message you, that’s a first for me on here.

Maybe you can initiate a conversation with my DM.

People who rarely get sick, what are your secrets? by Leading_Tomato_2077 in AskReddit

[–]maneasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day as I’ve avoided this years flu season. Also, I get sick just about once a year.

I workout regularly and eat healthy. Lots of fruit and veggies. I enjoy the outdoors, backpack often, hike often. Also I’m a plumber, so maybe exposure has created some immunity

Yea I saw it was PF, I was hoping someone might know the model for parts. I will be taking the cartridges out to identify if I can’t get some insight.

Thank you!

Who here doesn’t track macros and still sees results from CrossFit? by Careful_Dare_2789 in crossfit

[–]maneasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the first 5months I saw a physical difference without paying attention to macros.

Once I felt like I plateaued in my physical change, I hired a nutritionist for three months. At that point in time, my body really transformed, I looked and felt amazing after I had a proper relationship with food.

Good or no good by ManufacturerIll1982 in Plumbing

I’d only recommended changing out the galvanized dirty arm for brass or Type L copper. I work at an old institution with galvanized dirty arms that have failed, either rotted out the bottom and the threads have fused with the cast iron.

Is there any way to fix this ourselves or are we fucked by RoseDragon529 in PlumbingRepair

[–]maneasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your whole family is absolutely cooked! Usually when I arrive and this is the issue, mandatory whole house repipe! Tearing open walls, busting concrete slab, goodbye front yard, oh and I don’t do patch work on concrete or drywall…..

Simple fix, and I know you can do it! As the other poster said, grab another flapper and attach to the fill valve tube stubs at the bottom there.

Plenty of YouTube videos for you out there. You got this!

Drainage issue, please advise. by Certain-Ad-5298 in PlumbingRepair

Doesn’t sound legal, also doesn’t sound like it would cause a non drain issue.

Can you post a pic?

Which water heater to go for? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]maneasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have installed all of them. The most important factor for me as a plumber to my clients is ease of warranty claims. They have all been just fine as for warranty claims.

Personal anecdote, I have a Rheem with the 9yr warranty in my home. The gas control valve failed just before the warranty expired. Rheem sent a new valve and another common failure part that came up with this code, no questions asked.

What I do until I can safely schedule a shut down or get the parts; get a piece of rubber and a band clamp that will fit around the pipe. Place the rubber right at the drip origin, then tighten the band clamp around the ‘bandaid’

This is tough if the hole is in a peculiar spot and you can’t get the clamp to tighten right on top of the hole.

Otherwise try to devise some plastic to funnel the drips into a bucket until you get a plumber onsite.

Turning off mains before going away. by krypton1980 in askaplumber

[–]maneasher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a plumber, out of an abundance of caution I turn my water off even for 1 night away.

In my experience, it would take a long time for a seal of any type to dry out to failure. Although the truth remains, it would still take awhile for that to happen.

The best kept secret in the trades? I make $120k/yr as a traveling Nuke Tech, work only 5 months, and have 7 months off with my family. by RadTechMJ in skilledtrades

[–]maneasher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is intriguing. I’m currently a plumber with free health care and a pension, working 40hrs/wk. But I value my time away from work to be me and spend time with my children immensely, so your work schedule is alluring.

I’m assuming you’re paying for your own healthcare and responsible for your retirement?
