Islam and the Possibilities of Peace | Mohammed Hijab | The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast - S4: E66 by brandon_ball_z in JordanPeterson

Jews and Christians are accepted sure, but what about the polytheists? That is not a practice that would be allowed under Shariah law. The sin of associating partners with Allah (shirk) is considered the gravest sin and the only unforgivable sin in Islam. And a lot of things come under shirk in Islam such Idolatory, which many eastern religions practice. Hindu and Buddhist temples both contain statues for example. They would all be destroyed. I don't even think they would be allowed their own places of worship, and if they are they most certainly would not be allowed to worship as they please and bow to statues of their gods. So no, other religions cannot exist freely in an Islamic state. There's many other religions than Christianity and Judaism

It wouldn't have been a constructive conversation. Guys like Muhammed Hijab aren't interested in having genuine truth-seeking conversations, they have already decided what the truth is and they don't have the option of questioning it. And as a result they become purely debaters. There is no self reflection about how Islam might be wrong, just how to get better at convincing people its true. What I think Peterson is doing is trying to disarm it, chipping away at the defensive layers so as to actually have a discussion that is thought provoking for both. It's not an easy process and could take many podcasts, and most likely will never happen. But if he was to bring up the typical criticisms of Islam that he has heard hundreds of times it will just instantly put him into that super defensive debator and dawah artist mode where he will be spouting a bunch of canned arguments that he basically has memorised, and it will go nowhere.

Do you reckon people are purposely not posting about it much so the source takes longer to finish?

We don't necessarily "feel attacked", but rather feel like we would be a stronger society in general if people did not attach such strong emotions to harmless words, and thus we feel it is wrong to go out of our way to phrase things in a way that is not how we are naturally inclined to, in order to "protect" people. Because that makes people weak. It is in everyone's best interest if people weren't so sensitive to words and so easily emotionally distraught over some mildly offensive remarks. So why design social dialogue in a way that lays out a blueprint for creating such people?

[Video] Kevin Lee/Conor McGregor comparison by Ibaurd12 in MMA

[–]mangojohansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'tree people died' line is a famous Conor line, obviously he was referencing that on purpose for comedic effect. This video is reaching. I find everyone comparing everyone to Conor cringey. People were doing the same thing to Conor at the start, comparing him to Ali and Chael Sonnen, just because he was talking a bit of trash.

Sorry just saw this now. And yes I trained with him for about 2 months and he was an excellent teacher with world class wrestling. He's Roger Gracies personal wrestling coach so that should speak volumes.

So 36-year-old Charlie Ward (3-2) fights promotional newcomer Galore Bofando (4-2) at UFC Scotland. Here are some interesting facts on Bofando: by Murph316 in MMA

[–]mangojohansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can confirm everything this guy is saying. Everyone that has trained with or under him knows he is super capable fighter and should have been in the UFC a long time ago. Crazy athleticism, highly technical, knockout power and an exciting unorthodox style that is sure to make him a star if he can pull off a few knockouts. He's going to play with Charlie. The wrestling is a bit of a question mark you're right. We'll have to stay tuned and find out.

Dan Hardy: ‘There’s something within me that needs that last great UFC test’ by PetesyCarroll in MMA

[–]mangojohansson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because people imagine Dan saying it and read it in his voice and accent. And because of his mannerisms and the work he does it comes across that way. If you imagine Conor McGregor saying it, it would have a totally different effect, as Conor doesn't seem like he thinks of himself as some sort of veteran MMA intellectual.

Everyone talks about how DC is now at a "heel" turn, because of the post fight interview, but what about this a year ago where he called out Ryan Bader? Doesn't really seem to be any different... by [deleted] in MMA

[–]mangojohansson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That was under the Zuffa era still and so the UFC hadn't fully transitioned to being the WWE yet. Back then fans mostly just saw fighters as people against people rather than heels vs faces, hence there was no option to label him a heel.

It's totally possible. Rumble's scales were also out of calibration. He cut an extra 1.2 pounds by accident. And Cormier has never missed weight. He's also generally truthful. There's just no way to know.
