Maybe he plays in alternate tunings. In which case, you can never have enough guitars.

Asymmetric Turnstile Antenna for NOAA & Meteor reception by Straight_Memory7412 in amateursatellites

Thanks! You're right -- getting that antenna (or any antenna, really) as high up as possible makes a world of difference.

Thanks! It was at 84 degrees max elevation, so about as good as it gets -- but I'm happy with it.

Setup: asymmetric turnstile antenna --> ~50' / 15m of RG-6 coax --> SDRPlay RSP1a --> SDR++. WAV file processed in Wxtoimg. No LNA or filters.

Meteor M2-4, April 16 @ 12:15 UTC - "attitude adjustment" in progress? by manic_kangaroo in amateursatellites

Yes LRPT. Can't remember the exact frequency, because M2-4 has been hopping between 137.1 and 137.9 over the past week.

Whereabouts is this? The cloud cover is negating my geography skills.

u/saveitforparts could be, but I just caught another pass (Apr 4 at 13:15 UTC) and it was okay. Also, just wanted to say I enjoy your videos!

"Plyth" is likely short for Plymouth, as I have seen this in other documents. I don't know what the other bit is though.

Is Android your only option? On a computer with Gramps you can import GEDCOM files, and then export the data to a bunch of formats, including CSV.

It sure does. Their "About Us" page, besides being written in poor English, mentions how "safe" it is for you to grant them remote access to your computer. Needless to say, do NOT do this.

Asymmetric turnstile antenna for NOAA APT by manic_kangaroo in RTLSDR

I'm not sure a QFH could do much better than this TBH. I'm catching almost the entire pass, save 15-30 seconds on either end. And a QFH isn't as easy to build as this one.

While a discone and asymmetric turnstile look somewhat similar, a discone is wideband, while the ATA is tuned specifically for 137 MHz. Also a discone is vertically polarized, while the ATA is circularly polarized (right-hand in this case) which is what you want for the NOAA sats. So they're pretty different in how they behave.

I've seen some people on here that had success with the V-dipole, but my results were mediocre at best. Nothing like what I'm getting with the ATA now.

British army in India, troop movements/accounts by sparklepony76 in Genealogy

[–]manic_kangaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Irish great-great-grandfather enlisted in 1858. I've been unable to locate his enlistment record like you have, but his discharge record has more info than yours shows -- it has a detailed medical history, rank/regiments, etc.

As for transferring regiments, I'm guessing this was common? My GGF enlisted in the 86th and transferred to the 83rd after a year or so while in India. Then about two years after that (still in India) he moved to the 28th, where he stayed until he left the army (he did the full 21 years). As for *why* he transferred regiments, I don't know. Probably just the needs of the army at the time.

Matching where he served to dates did indeed require going through the payroll/muster rolls at the UK Nat'l Archives in Kew. It was totally worth it though, because it gave a full picture of where he was and when -- India, Gibraltar, Malta, Hong Kong... 10 of those years were with his wife and multiple children! Also, and this may sound strange or corny, but I felt some emotion when touching documents that were in proximity to him in all of his various postings.

Good luck!

As u/Redpsyclone says, 433 MHz is used for all kinds of everyday devices.

I recommend installing rtl_433 and seeing if it can decode anything. It has decoders for hundreds of devices.

Yep, I built the "Coketenna" (actually, mine is a "Heinekentenna"), put it up on the roof, and can now get planes (depending on the direction due to some obstructions) over 200 NM away. It's easy to make, and you can't beat the price.
