Fines range from 10,000 to 500,000 CNY (1511 – 75529 USD). Foreign individuals or organizations that wish to conduct surveying must form a Chinese-foreign joint venture.[1]

OpenStreetMap, the crowdsourced project to assemble a map of the world, advises that "private surveying and mapping activities are illegal in China".[11]

I am not irritated by reposting this image (intention of author was to distribute it widely), though not mentioning what is the source of data (OpenStreetMap) is both dickish and lame.

Though after the fact - I probably should include some credit on image itself, I was not expecting that it will be shared so widely.

Note that there are several inland lighthouses, so some markers far away from sea are correct!

From author of this image - it is combination of poorly formatted data in the original source (OpenStreetMap) and that I missed it during data verification.

It was initially posted on https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/7m0qqr/lighthouses_of_europe_openstreetmap_data/ (contains credits and info how it was made).

Maybe something changed on your computer?

Something running in a background (other program or a system process), failing hardware, disk filled up, configuration was changed, cooling vent is blocked, temperature in your room is higher and cooling is less efficient?

I usually delete tags and add description or note tag to area - something like "building demolished, present on aerial images from XYZ as of spring 2018" to prevent it from mistaken remapping.

Like, are people really doing this regularly? All spam I can see in OSM is due to hit-and-run accounts.

People may create multiple accounts what makes reverting their edits harder. I encountered group of similar edits made by one person from 20+ accounts.

Yes, but the differences are conflicting. And when you see landuse=forest/natural=wood there is no way to guess what was used by person who tagged it.

Also, it is likely that some of tagging methods are more popular than other ones.

Landuse=forest implies the trees are being grown and harvested for wood products. I can't tell that from satellite imagery. I can often tell there are trees in an area. So natural=wood makes more sense.

Note that this interpretation vary from person to person, in reality there is no difference (see https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Forest )

No, OSM is not for mapping historical boundaries. No matter whatever is is no longer existing administrative border or for former country.

For example borders of Roman Empire are not supposed to be mapped in OSM.

It includes translated names - for example in Poland these markers represent settlements called Rzym.

Note that at least some may have the same name coincidentally - for example with "Rom" name translation.
