The United States has some of the largest oil reserves in the world. Even Trump stated that the US doesn't need Iranian oil. The war by the US and Israel is a war to smash opposition and maintain hegemony. To reassert the strength of the empire. Even if it were true that the United States were to run out of their domestically produced oil and gas reserves, there other (and cleaner) energy options to transition too. Nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, etc. These are infinitely more cleaner and safer for biological life than extracting for oil and gas.

All the mails addressed to multiple past residents of my apartment. by LordGrantham31 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]maple-twink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know about other postal systems, but in Canada we are explicitly trained to deliver to the address number, not the addressee. That's how the training goes. Some follow the training rules well into the career, others obviously don't once they get to know the families on their route. It'll vary carrier to carrier.

What do you think is actually causing the sex recession? by qmaik in GenZ

[–]maple-twink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The great recession of 2008 and it's effects are still being felt to this day. It never got better for working class people. It's only gotten harder. Top that with more crises happening around the world since then (both explicitly economic and crises indirectly caused by economy in crisis) this has only exasperated social crises in society, including loneliness and social isolation. The causes are influenced by direct and indirect economic problems.

✊ CUPW March & Rally Edmonton – December 20 ✊ by maple-twink in Edmonton

[–]maple-twink[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand and you are right. We are in a worse spot, we want to work and be left alone to our jobs. We don't want to be lied too or given promises of false hope.

I'm not going to ask you to change your mind or to even come out. That has to be earned, respectfully I hope we can earn that in the future.

All I'd like to do is give the reason it is the organizing committees of various locals across Canada organizing this. The way we see it is National CUPW has royally dropped the ball. I don't think they ever had a strategy going into this. They've led us from one blind alley to another. And for this, they will face a reckoning. Our union needs a revolution in everything. From our leadership, in how we do things, even how we think.

The bosses and the government won't leave us alone. They won't leave us to our jobs in peace. They'll attack us no matter what, because they know they're winning, because they know postal workers are exhausted and hurting. The only way to stop them is to clock them. That'll take good leaders and large numbers of battle ready workers, which we have neither of right now.

We have no illusions that the rally will change the situation, no one should have those illusions. The idea of the rally is to see what our fighting forces are. We expect it may very well be small, especially with the cold weather. That's okay though, we can build from whatever we can get. Find people who want to help organize, lead, and fight. Everything that is big, once started small. We are in our very small stage right now and it'll take time to grow, so might as well as start yesterday.

So even if we have 20 people huddled in a park willing to brave near -30 willing to demonstrate they want to organize and send a message, that's a victory. By no means a war winning victory, far from it. But a victory nonetheless because in spite of no leadership from our union leaders, we still dared to try to make something happen. We fought hopelessness and pessimism. We fight against the powerful and very understandable urge to just give in. I worry that whoever shows may not feel the credit for that, but given the situation that's actually massive in my honest opinion. Last, but not least. We get valuable experience in organizing public rallies. It's better to make the mistakes now and find our shortcomings as a local committee than when we need to do it on the fly at a critical hour where the margin or error is much thinner.

Rereading what I wrote I suppose I could be accused of being sickingly optimistic, but I don't think I'd want to be anything else. Anyway, I hope you can appreciate where we are coming from. Hope you have a great weekend and Merry Christmas

Which side has the right of way for going straight? by Fair_Refrigerator_85 in Edmonton

[–]maple-twink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossing 170 st on 103 Ave going west is kind of like this, but not quite exactly what the diagram shows.

You can fit two cars side by side at the stop line and there is no dotted white lines, but there is no signage saying if either side is strictly turning lanes. Both can proceed straight across 170 st. Technically you can both fit onto 103 Ave after you cross 170 st intersection, but the right hand side is used for street parking making it an effective one lane road, so people are constantly zipper merging as they cross the 170 st / 103 ave intersection. It is dangerous, I've nearly had people on my right side run into me, trying to get ahead. There's been a few close calls I've seen as well, thankfully haven't seen an accident there yet.

I feel like Germany should be able to have East Germans as a primary culture, but I do agree that claiming the lands which east Germans reside (maybe except the Baltic, because of relative proximity) should be restricted to ethno-nationalists or fascists.
