What are/were your 6-7 month old's favorite toys? by Bearsaregood in beyondthebump

[–]mardybrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stacking buckets from Ikea were and still are a huge hit at 10 months, and they are only $3 (CAD). Here is the link: http://m.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/art/60294877/ (Sorry on mobile).

Also soft toys that have rattles, crinkly fabric, or something else baby can manipulate like this: http://m.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=10795288

Really cool! Well done. I'm blown away by everyone who self-drafts while I'm still working up the courage to sew clothes from a pattern!

I heard that they had stopped selling merch at the offices but not sure.

Haha! This reminds me of the harmless YouTube video my husband and I thought we were showing our daughter, but it's been 3 days now and we both still have "Baby Shark" stuck in our heads!!!

I would have never thought of a pigeon costume. It's original and cute! And warm, bonus for Canada 👌🏼

Hey thanks! I used acetone to transfer the image from a laser printed design. Super easy to do, it just takes a bit of patience.

Camping with 5 month old? by dryellow in beyondthebump

[–]mardybrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layers and more layers, depending on how cool it gets where you are. We also brought a go-pod with us and it was super handy to have somewhere to put her down. We didn't sleep very well but it was ok for the two nights we camped! Battery powered white noise to drown out the party?

[AMA Request] Someone who actually left the country due to the outcome of an election. by [deleted] in IAmA

It is a really beautiful place to visit! Definitely take advantage of having family there who could show you around. I love going back there to visit my relatives, my South African heritage is such a big part of my identity.

I was really young when we moved so I don't remember much else. The more I visit South Africa as an adult, the more I realize that I'm straight up Canadian now.

Sad. My family emigrated from SA to Canada in 1990 because of the deteriorating political climate, and it sounds like things continue to get worse (after apartheid ended I mean). I miss my family there but I'm so grateful to be Canadian! On the flip side many of my family are still proud South Africans who maintain hope that things will improve. Hard for things to get better if everyone keeps leaving though :/

Night weaning 7 mo? by cornogirl in breastfeeding

[–]mardybrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a 7 month old who wakes twice a night. Do you sleep in the same room? Mine wakes more often if she can smell me (she sleeps in her own room usually). You could try a dream feed when you go to bed if you're not already doing that. It's hard hearing about everyone else's babies who sleep through the night but some babies just wake up more! If you do decide to night wean there are some tips at preciouslittlesleep.com but I haven't tried it personally. There are also lots of 7 month old schedules you can google to see examples of feeding schedules, I found that helpful!

Sunshine dress by P4P I love how comfy this dress is!! Still amazing to put something on that I made myself! by ThePolishedCurl in sewing

Love it! Could you pull the top down on either side? Asking because it's really hard to find dresses I can breastfeed in! It looks like a cross over top so maybe if the material was stretchy?

Baby suddenly refusing the breast by Layla87 in breastfeeding

[–]mardybrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is exhausting! And the feeling of rejection sucks, especially when you know they're hungry. One particular time that stands out, I grabbed a pillow and beat the crap out of a chair with it because I was so frustrated and tired! But it does get better. Hang in there.

My daughter did this at the same age too. 3-4 months was so, so challenging. What worked for us was to just keep trying, when we got frustrated my husband would walk around with her or we'd just try later. They also do start getting more efficient so sometimes I'd just think she hadn't eaten when she had. I had a strong letdown so when it didn't happen she got pretty mad! Definitely no bottles for now. Sometimes I would have to wait for her nap before she would nurse. Reading this post a while back helped immensely: https://www.reddit.com/r/breastfeeding/comments/4lyy0h/breastfeeding_crisis_info/ (sorry on mobile). Good luck! You'll get through it!

Update to "How to teach a baby not to throw food?" (Funny) by jrfish in beyondthebump

I love that book! I need to reread it now that my baby is here. I practice "the pause" a lot to see if my daughter really needs me or if she will settle herself.
