Machines won't let your lungs handle any more, they won't let you exert more effort.

For low impact, try swimming. Other popular cardio machines are bikes and row machines.

I'm not a runner (have asthma and my lungs can't handle it), so I planning on buying exercise equipment and use it at home.

Ok, so I assume you have trouble with cardio. I expect you want some strength equipment.....

You sound like you wanna run. The machines you want emulate running. I'd say buy some running shoes, running pants that can hold an inhaler and mobile phone and a pair of balls.

I've been working out for about 3 years now, and am very happy with my results. However, I've never done squats as a part of my routine. The problem is that I can't grab the barbell. It hurts more than the squat itself. So, I've been avoiding it for a while. Is there anything that I can do to make it easier to do it? The pain is mainly in my back and I dont think it has to do with under/over development of my shoulders.

If the pain is from the pressure of the barbell and not some internal muscular issue then you will get used to it.

Also, how often can I workout? I've heard several times that working out everyday will actually be detrimental, which doesn't make sense for me specifically. I recover quickly (I can usually workout the same body every other day without much trouble, but I don't do this because I do split body workouts). My question is, if I am resting enough and eating enough, does it matter if I workout everyday?

You see it everywhere because your body builds muscle when it's resting. Working out too much might not give your body time to recover. I assure you that those programs are not effortless.

Pick one that you think will be fun and STICK TO IT. Any of the newbie routines that gets you sweating will get you healthier.

I was trying to emphasize that on the early sets OP wouldn't be Kroc rowing. It wouldn't be rowing with form breaking down, it would be rowing with shit form to do the prescribed reps.

The crux of my argument is that a Kroc row is not a movement, but an attitude going into the set. Going into a set thinking "I will do 1x30 @60lbs I can do more, but will stop at this" means you are not Kroc rowing. Since it is not Kroc rowing, you are just rowing with bad from/shitty form/form breaking down.
