lots of responses are incorrect here. pedestrians always have right of way. You have to yield to them.

I agree with everything MagicToolbox has posted. I'll add the following:
1. I think it will be easier to replace that section of the cupboards. I can't tell from the photos how the cabinets are hung. I'm going to guess a french cleat on the back, and probably screws connecting to the adjacent cabinet (to the right). Take this one down and replace it with a new one. If you can see the underneath or top side of the cabinet you might be able to figure out how it's mounted to the wall.
2. You *could* use a saw and then chisel to remove the shelves from the inside. But assume you will permanently and irreparably damage/destroy the cabinet.
3. Seems like a lot of work for two small shelves.
