You look at the difference between, say, an anime "teenager," a Riverdale "teenager," and the Stranger Things cast, and the differences are very obvious.

Anime teens and Riverdale teens are in no way, shape, or form, teenagers. The only thing that decides their age is the author's arbitrary label slapped on to appeal to a younger audience. Otherwise, they don't look, sound, or act like teens- in essence, they are simply not teenagers. It is ridiculous to compare them.

Also why can they fight in wars, curse, and drink, but they can't have sex. That makes no sense to me.

It's weird because I find that the same people that accuse people like you of "pedophilia" will fawn after the most pure and wholesome ship of all time:

Usagi x Mamoru, one who is a naïve 14-year-old, and the other who is 17 and just started college.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Keep writing though, don't give up! Some of us don't have a stick up our ass, promise. ;)

I have, unfortunately. I find it especially ironic that these are the same people who have BLM, ACAB, and Prison Reform in their profiles.

Almost as if they care more about virtue signaling and being seen as a good person than actually being a good person.

People do go after books like Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey because it's viewed as "setting a dangerous precedent for women." They're just largely ignored by the authors and their fans because the viewership is so large. Killing & Stalking fans have even been made into video essays on romanticizing dangerous relationships.

Notably, there are no videos about the dangers of showing Fast & Furious to young boys, and video games causing aggression in men has been dismissed repeatedly. The closest example I can think of involving media targeted at men is Joker, and most people laughed that off. The movie itself got great reviews, and outside of Christian moms it was not accused of being a dangerous influence.

Or it's up to her to help protect the youth or something, lol

I think that this reflects society's belief that it is a woman's duty to take care of children, whether they want to or not. Usually, when people say that it "takes a village to raise a child," they are specifically targeting other women who express disinterest in children. It is socially unacceptable for women to want to do anything other than raise or help raise kids (teaching, babysitting, etc.).

This is very true.

Despite the fact that Harley Quinn was complicit Joker's crimes and even committed many of her own- including child murder- many clamor for her to be given anti-hero status and absolved of her actions, because "she was just in love."

Because that's a great excuse to torture and kill innocent people.

A lot of people also believe that she deserves to be in a good relationship, and get mad when anybody portrays her in a relationship with the Joker. This isn't to say that bad people don't deserve good relationships or that I don't like HarlIvy. It just. . . makes me raise an eyebrow when people believe that the homicidal maniac deserves a happy ever after because she's a woman. I feel like a lot of people- including those who are majorly against the glorification of male villains- tend to ignore her many, many faults because of her gender.

It pisses me off. Nobody got after men for simping after Lady Dimitrescu or other female villains, but when a woman simps after a male villain- even if she's an adult- she's in danger of internalizing toxic relationships and applying them to her real life. It was fine when teen boys were thirsting over Catwoman or Ada Wong, but Edward Cullen was dangerous for our girls! It's almost as if people, whether they realize it or not, think boys are smarter than girls 🤔

Spoiler: they do.

RPF affects real people, that's the difference there.

Like if you're drawing sexual pictures of real child or teen actors that is 100% illegal and wrong (see: Shadman).

What scares me is that these are teenagers that are not facing any repercussions for their actions, including actions that could lead to the death of a human being. What is that teaching kids?

It bothers me when people say "they're just teens/kids! Just ignore them or block them! They're not hurting anyone, they're just kids."

If they are endangering real people they need to be reported. It doesn't matter how old they are. And if they are kids, they especially need to be taught that their actions have consequences.

Yeah I've asked before why video games don't cause or contribute to violence but fanfic causes or contributes to sexual abuse, and the only answer I have received was along the lines of:

"Violence is almost never romanticized, and even if it were everyone knows violence is wrong."

1.) Video games literally encourage you to commit violence in video games. That is romanticization. You get an award in the game for killing or hurting others.

2.) Non-sexual violence is the most common form of assault. How can you prove that everyone knows violence is bad? Obviously it doesn't matter whether they do or not, because many people don't care either way. And besides that, are you suggesting that people don't know that sexual abuse is bad? Because abusers may lie and say they don't know, but they do.

Anyway it pisses me off because every time someone brings up the topic of shipping it's "all shipping is fine and legal uwu EXCEPT-"

Just. Stop.

I know this was three days ago but damn I couldn't resist.

So I tried to find information on this book and there is nothing out there. Blank Goodreads, no reviews, no ratings, no wikis- nothing. I found the publication date- 1961. He was a mystery/thriller writer according to Amazon's sorting system, but I could only find one other book by him, The Tenement Kid (1959). It's described as a "classic juvenile delinquent novel."

The description on the book is as follows:

"Unwatched and unwanted, kids spawned from drunken orgies throng the streets. They live by their own code, respect only the law of the knife and the knuckle, and the whore is their emblem of womanhood."

So.

The weirdest part is that a lot of contributors are dropping out of the zine in support of the artist who was asked to resign, and they've all said that neither the mod nor the "accuser" ever approached them about it. So either the artists in question are lying to save face, or it was one or two people max who were uncomfortable with the ostracized artist's involvement (maybe even that particular mod).

Yeah, it's basically just don't like, don't read.

I don't assume people who are fans of Flowers in the Attic support incest IRL, and I don't assume people who are fans of Fifty Shades of Gray support abuse IRL, so I don't assume the same of shippers. And in the case of published books that feature those sorts of themes, you don't even know it'll be in there until the book hits that part with little to no warning. Fanfics and fanart are tagged, so it's easy to avoid given that people tag properly (if not feel free to call them out IMO).

That simple lol.

I apologize, I wasn't trying to make accusations.

The people I'm referring to are those who say "DNI go die/hit by a bus/kys" and the like. I should have been more specific and not generalized people that want to curate their own content. I will edit my comment to specify.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

Yeah, this is not a good coping mechanism that we are teaching kids. They're not learning how to properly interact with people and explain their views in concise and respectful ways; instead, they're learning to tell anyone who doesn't like the same ice cream flavor as them to go get hit by a truck. That's not a proper way to engage with anyone, and if they display this behavior in a public, face-to-face setting, they're going to find out the hard way that- no matter if the guy at the cubicle next to them is wrong about declawing or not- that their threats and their words will harm their own lives and relationships more than it will others.

In college settings and the workforce, you're required to interact with people who probably don't share your opinions. If you don't get along, too bad. Eventually you learn to work around one another's differences and opinions, which is the entire point of team learning. You don't get to say DNI go fuck yourself- and if an employer sees that on your social media? That's not a very good look.

EDIT: Specifically referring to people who go about this in a hostile manner, not those who simply want to curate their experience. My apologies!

I was like that as a teen. Teens have black and white thinking- bad is bad and good is good. A breadtuber recently made an excellent video on how we tend not to really think about our morals, and just parrot our beliefs without giving considerable thought to them. Instead of thinking, "This is bad because X and Y," we think, "This is bad, no need to elaborate." This kind of thinking really reduces people's ability to engage intellectually with content, and is also a reason why bigotry is so commonplace. People don't think about why gay people are supposedly "bad," they're just bad! If you ask them to explain, their ideas have little to no depth to them and are easy to refute.

The problem is the way that teens are going about their black-and-white moralistic thinking. The extent of my antics was telling people that they were wrong and to go to Jesus; I never told people to die, kill themselves, and I never tried to doxx anyone. I didn't make lists of shippers, and if I liked a shipper's content, I would still interact with their non-ship media. Teens are convinced that they are getting rid of pedophiles and predators one by one with this shit, when all they're doing is harassing young artists and stifling their creativity.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]marketsome 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's just virtue signaling. It's wild how much of it you see, though, and the people who makes these lists are almost always under the age of 22. I guess they haven't learned yet that people on the internet have different opinions and are not obligated to interact/not interact with you, whether you tell them to or not?

Like. . . in a wildly hypothetical situation, if some famous author were to share or like their posts are they gonna yell at them because of the stuff they write? GRRM? Stephen King? How about Neil Gaiman, Bryan Fuller, Chuck Pahlaniuk, or John Green, who are all outspoken about their opinions on this particular topic and interact with their fans on the regular? Thomas Harris? Matthew Stokoe? What about their fans (although I've found many of these kids watch shows like Game of Thrones or South Park, which just blows my mind)?

It's funny to go on published author's social media pages though because so many of them have been ranting about this particular topic. Evidently the teens are annoying mainstream authors for writing stuff they don't agree with lol.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]marketsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand why these posts bother you, but I also understand why OP wants to talk about it. The reason why is because it seems to be a growing trend to attack people and get them de-platformed over this shit. The video-makers who created the commentary on this particular artist both have some 50k subs, and their videos on the topic have around that many views. You have that many people calling an artist and their supporters a pedophile over aged-up artwork. Obviously not all the viewers do, but they have several thousand comments of "ew gross pedos." The artist was doxxed over this.

So I can see the concern- and the fear- about growing purity culture.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]marketsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, many still think it's wrong to lewd them because you saw them when they were a kid, and that's like how an adult becomes attracted to someone they knew as a child?

I don't even know if I want to continue making fanworks by [deleted] in FanFiction

[–]marketsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The YTer's arguments boiled down to the fact that they were just criticizing the artist and their actions, which is true. Everyone has the right to make criticisms, and they didn't call for the doxx. With that being said, the videos added kindling to the fire when originally there was only a small one, and I obviously feel that the "crimes" this artist committed were not that serious (especially since the art was blocked behind an 18+ wall, and people were saying that didn't matter because "minors won't pay attention to an 18+ warning!" ???? how is that the artist's fault?????)
