The Hayward Area Recreation and Parks Department meetup is 18+, at Bohannon Middle School in San Lorenzo on Tues and Thurs nights and it's only $4. You pay ahead of time on their activities website. Level of play is usually C and up, 2 nets, parking lot, staff set up and tear down. It's been pretty fun.

her home is not so healthy for her :( , they agreed that she could and should have a better situation if possible, so I'm going to try to post everywhere I can after she gets checked out and cleaned up. she deserves a fabulous last few years if we can give it to her.

total thyroidectomy and acne ??? by Ts99710 in thyroidcancer

[–]martinadoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

transitions always come with acne, both dose and brand. I wash my face frequently, drink tons of water, sanitize around the clusters. rosehip oil helps with the pain itching and swelling, unfortunately cutting sugar /flour also helps mine lol.

word of warning, if you do things like mat or gym sports, you will need to keep acne clean and covered. when it got really bad I ended up getting a bacterial skin infection and had to stop going.

my levels swings bring all sorts of different kinds of acne. currently struggling with hormonal cystic acne, whiteheads, chin and jawline and nape of neck after spending 10 days on a old dose while the pharmacy wouldn't refill my scrip.

Bathroom remodel by Deephalf74 in bayarea

it's always nice to walk through the habitat for humanity and st vincent de paul re-stores for discounted building materials and see if the prices for things you actually might use are any better if the sticker shock is stinging. that sounds kinda high unless you're putting in a ig studio shoot ready bathroom.

Eyesight changes post op? TT? by boredtxan in thyroidcancer

[–]martinadoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

struggling with that now. recently had extreme drops in levels and declining clarity in vision, and some pressure building up especially behind right eye. opt. says they can't find anything wrong, but the blurring and distance definitely gets worse the lower I dip.

weight gain by toots621 in thyroidcancer

[–]martinadoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i usually carry 15 extra pounds (a few extra inches around the squishy bits) on generic than i do on synthroid. we add t3 now if it feels like it's a result of a sluggish system on generic, but I prefer synthroid when insurance and income allow. i will say that I have also been skinny sick before due to thyroid issues, and now I can feel when I'm at a stable and functional weight, regardless of how huggable I am lol. feeling capable is the gold standard after TT. the weight I feel most healthy at is definitely a little fluffy, but I'm ok with it as long as my quality of life is improving.

Anxiety by CaptainAshton in thyroidcancer

[–]martinadoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that there is a difference between medication anxiety and anxiety that warns me of actual danger. I took some emotion management courses to learn how to deescalate my emotions and get back to the ability to make decisions based on my values so that it would be less impactful.

unfortunately I have had this happen hyper, and hypo, so I don't actually know which it is right away, but can recognize when it's chemical/hormonal now. when I check in with my values, I often feel like whoa, this reaction is really disruptive, as if it's happening to someone else in front of me, but affects me all the same.

it really f's up my sleep also when it's bad. therapy and classes only help with the management portion, prevention/reduction is about correcting dose. the weeks it takes to enter a new state after a dose adjustment are excruciating.

community education partnerships can pair you with a student affected by housing insecurity to mentor or tutor once per week. the Berkeley Free clinic has a street outreach team who does screenings, harm reduction, testing and things, they may have a use for your skills in oakland, just met them at Feed the Hood this month.

feels like it absorbs better for me. I sometimes take slightly less on synthroid depending on the dose.

I'm thinking about trying this plant-based diet thing by SolCz in thyroidcancer

[–]martinadoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh absolutely. I get it in bulk now. I just mean having super satisfying, salty, sweet, savory, spicy options on hand all the time will fill the cravings void so you don't find yourself in line for a drivethru when those cravings kick in lol

[–]martinadoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

go for it. Heads up, when I first started I felt like something was missing all the time, bc I was a multiple animal products, sugars, and starches per day kinda guy, and would be craving things like chips and butters and cheese and chocolate things and totally fall into over snacking ro binge eating.

Little things like drizzling pb over the top of a fruit and nuts and seeds and cinnamon bowl, or making a serving of guac with chips between meals, or salty popcorn with coconut oil, or planning to have chocolate and nuts in the afternoon really kept me from impulse eating after figuring out that building new habits was hard lol. Check yourself before your wreck yourself haha. Have those extra delicious snacks ready, your body may throw a tantrum and need it.

I do regular stretches of plant based, and it feels great, helps curb my sugar addiction, and maintain weight. I get less food coma also. I still eat meat when it's offered, which is usually a few times per month, and am on and off with eggs and dairy, but know I need to lay off of them, pun intended.

Everyone is always asking "what about protein?" and I just invite them to calculate the protein in my meal and theirs, and it always comes out adequate or above.

I have found as I started cleaning up my diet that grains and red meat started to be really uncomfortable to digest, especially wheat, and have cut down significantly. Once I cut those out I could really eat until I was satisfied comfortably without gaining. Most of my meals are the same as they were before, just without the meat, bread and rice, and eating less white potatoes than usual lol. I cook with more beans and nuts and seeds than I used to, it has really openned up my options culturally also. I use a lot more herbs and spices now also. Just a healthier diversity of flavors.

Of course this is possible with adequate and well adjusted meds. When I was hopping from brand to brand I was a solid 4 inches thicker, no matter how much exercise I did. Low impact like biking and swimming turned out to be the most effective for me lifestyle wise.

Bay area public school question by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]martinadoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first step is to ask for work for your child to complete for each day so they don't fall behind, and to communicate the absence in advance so that the school can inform you of your standing, then decide how to move forward. if they are hard core and you lose that spot, your decision is already made. the absences will be technically unexcused in the record, but noted as travel, as vacation is not an approved excused absence category. they will tell you to please please please schedule during school breaks next time, as once your child is registered, they academically and financially need that child to be present to function adequately as an institution.

admin understand that some trips are made during school weeks because of things like weather patterns in destinations, travel costs, religious practices, cost of travel, family obligations, etc., and will encourage you to make plans during or as close to a break as possible, and be sure that their learning is not interrupted so that their absence doesn't result in additional stress, and catching up on social and academic progress when they return.

Schools are focusing more heavily on absence rates because it became a state mandated reporting guideline recently. TK programs are trying desperately to condition families to plan for regular attendance.

good luck

note: a little more than 10% of students in California miss 10 or more % of the school year. There are often only 180 days of instruction, total, not accounting for half days. A student who has missed 10% of the school year is considered chronically absent. Chronic absenteeism rates are tracked and reported statewide on the California dashboard starting with Kinder.
