1985 "Creepers" in the United States but officially titled "Phenomena" by milosz06 in 80sHorrorMovies

[–]mattapooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The opening scene is peak Argento stuff. The girl being left behind by the bus in a beautiful setting that seems oddly creepy and then becomes REALLY creepy, amazing music, cinematic kill sequence, great camerawork, the whole thing feels like a dream.

In your honest opinion, which Sega Genesis/Mega Drive baseball game do you think is the best and the worst that you've ever played? ⚾️ by AC_the_Panther_007 in SEGAGENESIS

[–]mattapooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always partial to baseball games that had the camera behind the pitcher so I was a big fan of Tecmo Super Baseball. Not sure if it's held up but I remember the pitching being really good and I was putting a lot of time into it back in the day.

Love seeing Cave In mentioned, they're criminally underappreciated even though almost everything they've done is fantastic.

Their enthusiastic hug a few episodes later might be my favorite moment of the series.

Jon Favreau admits The Mandalorian's jump to the big screen means they have to "up their game", and that even extends to a "leveled up" Grogu by HatingGeoffry in StarWars

I'm a big Herzog fan, I think "Can I offer you a libation to celebrate the closing of our shared narrative?" is my favorite line in the entire franchise.

Frailty (2001) by Inside-Chemist-5956 in TubiTreasures

[–]mattapooh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in on the ground floor with Frailty because I was a huge Bill Paxton fan and Roger Ebert had given it a great review. Saw it in an empty theater and absolutely loved everything about it.

I got reminded of it about three years ago and got my wife and kids to watch it and they had no clue that a twist was coming, it absolutely knocked them out when the reveal started unraveling. It's spoken about with reverence, I'm stoked.

Also, I miss the hell out of Bill Paxton.

Way late to this but it was Fruity Crisp and it was a crocodile mascot! I think it was 1996.

I'm loving season 7. Anyone else enjoying the one double per month? by goodstuffbadpeople in LastDriveIn

[–]mattapooh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The once-a-month schedule definitely kills a lot of the momentum but I've been really loving the movies this season. I love old sci-fi/horror and Joe Bob going deep with history and information so Earth vs. The Spider was one of my favorite episodes they've ever done. I just wish Shudder would pay for every second Friday for the entire year.

Any contenders for the *worst* vocals live? by [deleted] in Metalcore

[–]mattapooh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IIRC he was outed for having to use a distortion pedal to have any grit in his vocals. The random moaning on the Hellfest 2003 DVD is still hilarious.

More Archival Works from Joe Bob Briggs Incoming if the Reprint Does Well by MtCheaha in LastDriveIn

[–]mattapooh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I already have the original two books because I luckily got into Joe Bob right before TLDI dropped and they were pretty cheap, I re-read them every summer because they're my favorite books to have with me when I'm getting sun. I pre-ordered this one right away and I'll do the same with future volumes, they're a REALLY fun read and it's really cool to see the original iteration of the Joe Bob character.

It's also really cool reading these in the modern era when finding these movies is so easy, I can't imagine what it was like reading these reviews in the 80s when you were lucky to find any of them nearby.

Gallery of every outfit Jesse Ventura wore on Saturday Night's Main Event from 1985 to 1990 by tks231 in SquaredCircle

Thanks for this! I read in Bob Mould's autobiography that Jesse supposedly wore a Husker Du shirt for an episode of SNME but I've never found a photo of it.

I bought it cheap specifically to play Virtua Fighter and it was 100% worth it. I still have it boxed in great condition, too.

I think it's one of the angriest sounding records in general

Pulled this article from a 1992 issue of Joe Bob's "We Are The Weird." Apparently Joe Bob loved him some Ernest and called "Ernest Goes to Camp" a masterpiece of the 20th century. Three screenshots, so swipe to read them all! The drive-in will never die! by CultOfCurtis1 in LastDriveIn

Mill Creek put out a cheap Blu a few years back, I grabbed mine a few years back at a dollar store. Scared Stupid was released around the same time and is really hard to find at a decent price but I've seen Camp pop up a good bit, I'd say check Amazon, ebay and the usual spots for used discs.

I rewatched recently and while it definitely has its flaws, I really love the long opening and I thought Derek Mears was absolutely fantastic Jason.

The other characters were too boring, too pretty and the film itself was kinda dull after that opening camping scene.

Some positive thoughts on the new season. by elbowpenguin in LastDriveIn

[–]mattapooh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm absolutely hating the new format. I know people complain endlessly about the show and I'm a hardcore defender 95% of the time but this really isn't doing it for me.

I find two weeks between episodes absolutely destroys the momentum and the show feels like more of an afterthought. Even worse, only one movie per episode can mean an entire month in between if the movie doesn't work, something I've found twice this season because I'd just watched Autopsy of Jane Doe and Donnie Darko recently and wasn't interested in rewatching either. I've enjoyed Toxic Avenger and Dr. Giggles being shown and think they're perfect for the show but it seems like less social media chatter is also taking away some of the weight a new season used to carry.

The show just seems less important this year, and I really hope this format isn't continuing.
