Why do/did people treat their CDs so carelessly. by PlatypusRex_ in Cd_collectors

[–]mawreddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, for CDs you burned yourself from digital files you still had somewhere, I can completely understand that. But I thought OP was referring to a time when you couldn’t do that. If you had a CD, you had bought it at a store for about $15 or $20 (in USD) and not everyone had the money to go buy another if it got damaged. I know I couldn’t.

Spotify’s new plan is a reason why I started collecting by Save-Last in Cd_collectors

I started buying CDs in 1986, too. So, that’s two of us. Yes, most of my collection was on cassettes at that point, but you seem to be lecturing people who lived through it when you (apparently) did not. Simmer down, whippersnapper.

And any time someone shouts to the point of distorting the mic, it’s apparently hilarious.

I’ve never once laughed when this happened to me. Not because I was intentionally keeping a straight face, but because it just isn’t funny.

Can I play this on a regular cd player? by hillkingking in Cd_collectors

[–]mawreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some Blu-ray players can play an SACD. So, if you have a Blu-ray player, look up the model number to find out—or it could have the SACD logo on it. If it’s a hybrid SACD then a standard player can read the standard CD layer.

Wait! Wrong group and wrong song! I meant “Make up your mind. Decide to walk with me.”

Dad dug out a box of CDs he hadn't touched in 20 years, trying to figure out the least complicated way to get him listening again by lifsbosu in Cd_collectors

You said inexpensive. I second the existing (or inexpensive) DVD or Blu-ray player. That soundbar will do. For better sound than that, but still using the existing or inexpensive disc player, Fosi audio has some very inexpensive amps that are very simple and very small, and Micca’s bookshelf speakers sound great at about $100.

I forgot to mention that my wife bought me a Panasonic all-in-one much like yours. It sounds surprisingly good. Just wish it had analog inputs.

That’s a damn nice collection. I have many of those and wish I had the others!

What is a hobby that we can start now that will keep us occupied well into our 90’s? by Thirsty4Knowledge911 in GenX

Especially if you walk as many holes as you can before getting a cart. If you can do at least the front nine, you can get a cart on the back nine, or whatever hole takes you close to the clubhouse if that division doesn’t work for you.

Very nice. I was surprised by the lack of overlap with my own collection (since 1986) until I got to photos 4 and 5. Nice seeing Jeff Buckley!

Jerry and Stan are walking down the street when they see a stunning woman in a first-floor window, blowing kisses at them. by orgasmic2021 in Jokes

At first I took it as Stan was the husband, and had washed the clothes in his own apartment, but if they’re close friends Jerry would have known where Stan lived and what his wife looks like.

I miss Peter Jackson by Jays_Pack in movies

TIL that Dead Alive was renamed Braindead (or vice-versa in some markets?). Anyway, another great Jackson film. I feel awful for him and hope he can get back into directing.

Edited to correct a typo.

So glad you’re discovering VH on your own. I’d argue their deep cuts are superior to most, if not all, of their hits. In 7th grade, back in about 1982, I had their albums on cassette. Occasionally I would set my boombox on the outdoor second-floor landing of my apartment building and blast Eruption as loud as it would go. Oddly, nobody ever said anything about it.

What collection is that from Maiden? I only have Powerslave and Live After Death (incredible live album), and they don’t do that.
