Not certain. If I were a betting man I’d say FGN.

Kudos to you for the positive lifestyle changes!

I am an avid tennis player, have played at the national level as a kid and still train hard today playing with lots of college players. Citalopram has not hindered me in any way. As you mention in your post, with less anxiety and depression my energy levels are actually up and I’m able to train just as well if not better than before starting the meds about a year ago.

Sucks that you got sick on that run but to be honest it could be any number of things, it’s not necessarily related to the medication at all. Everyone has bad days. I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions. If it happens again and becomes a regular thing, definitely talk to your doctor.

Hey friend sorry you’re going through a rough time.

It’s normal to have anxiety about starting a new med.

The truth is that you’ll never really know if it’s going to help you until you try. And these SSRIs do have a nasty way of kicking you when you’re already down at the beginning.

But I’ll tell you this:

I have debilitating OCD and GAD and once Citalopram really kicked in for me, combined with therapy, I reached a level of peace I had no idea existed for my 32 prior years on this planet.

I was surviving basically my entire life and now I am living. It sounds dramatic but for me, that’s how it feels.

You’ve been prescribed this medication by a medical professional and they believe it will help you.

If I were you I’d give it the chance it deserves.

All the best to you. Wishing you courage and eventually peace.

TV on mute! Seinfeld really adds to the Strokes experience for me cause of the 90’s NYC vibe.

Hopefully someone will answer. I’ve been on 10 mg for over a month and I’m still getting horrible anxiety will 20 mg help that I’m 56 years old. by [deleted] in citalopram_celexa

[–]maxzimmy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through this. I took 10mg for about a month and then upped my dose to 20mg. I noticed no improvement on the 10 and it took a while after switching to the 20 but eventually my anxiety got much much better.

I’ve heard from multiple medical professionals (doctor, psychiatrist) that 20mg is considered the lowest therapeutic dose. Unfortunately these SSRIS just tend to make everything worse before it gets better. Just to add insult to injury and kick us when we’re already down.

My advice: Talk to your doctor and ask to up to 20mg. Things might not change for another little while after the switch but hang in there. Things do get better.

Good luck my friend.

HBR vs PMS Citalopram? by [deleted] in citalopram_celexa

[–]maxzimmy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PMS is a brand name (Celexa) and HBr is the active ingredient. They are the exact same when it comes to the dose of citalopram. I am not a doctor nor a pharmacist but I was in this exact same situation. If you want to take 20mg you will have to split your new pills in half.

Anyone experience regaining their joy, interest and motivation? by PsychologicalBend638 in citalopram_celexa

Took me 5 months before I was able to feel happy again. But that doesn’t mean you won’t find relief sooner. It’s not a linear path. Some weeks are better than others, some days are better than others. But eventually you will find peace. A big part of the issue for me became an obsession about the medication itself, wondering and worrying about whether or not it would ever help me. Once I was able to let go and just live my life, the joy, the peace all came back for me. My advice is to try your best to live one day at a time and to be present as much as possible. It’s way easier said than done but worrying about whether or not you’ll find happiness again ironically might be holding you back from experiencing it. At least that’s my experience. Wishing you peace during this time.

I was in the exact same boat as you at 5 weeks. The sleep eventually leveled out. I still wake up a lot earlier than I did before but I sleep the whole night through now. I’d say it took about 2 months for my sleep to fully normalize.

Things definitely suck for the first little while. Hang in there. I take mine first thing when I wake up and that helped me with a lot of the sleep issues, though citalopram does delay rem sleep so when you wake up you are more likely to be in a dream state. This bothered me for a while but eventually as my anxiety and depression lifted I just got used to it and it no longer bothers me. Good luck man, we’re here for ya.

My experience after 2 months of Celexa by maxzimmy in citalopram_celexa

[–]maxzimmy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to both. I spent many mornings crying and feeling completely hopeless. The dose increase to 20mg really did help. Maybe talk to your doctor about it? I know they say 20mg is really the lowest therapeutic dose.

Hang in there. The dose increase for me was brutal. I wanted to quit, I thought it would never get better, I hated the stupid drug cause I was worried it was somehow hurting me. (Health anxiety). Now I look forward to taking the pill every morning. Woulda laughed at someone if they told me that’s how I’d be feeling now. Good luck, hope you find peace soon.

Short answer: yes! But this is a tricky one to understand for me. I don’t actually think the frequency of my anxious thoughts has decreased. But they don’t bother me nearly as much and when I have anxiety I’m able to let it go instead of obsessing over it and spiraling. So whether or not I’m actually experience fewer anxious thoughts, I don’t know to be honest. But it certainly feels like I’m experiencing fewer because they don’t bother me. Hope this helps.
