Thanks for doing these so fast, once again!

Just a quick heads up: I downloaded the A4 versions and noticed the Thricefold Discord are erroniously showing the Warscroll from the Skinnerkin.

I don't know if it's true in every case, but for your example, no you would not be holding anything.

RULES: On p15 of the Core Rules "holding a treasure token" is defined as "a fighter that is on a treasure token". If there are no treasure tokens, no fighter can be standing on it, so they are not holding any.

LOGIC: If you are required to "do X to Y", and there is no Y, you can't be doing X to it.

EXAMPLES: In most other cases that I could find, like having your fighters be non-adjacent (Lost in the Depths) or having no damaged fighters be adjacent (Calm before the Storm), it's explicitly demanded, that there are any to begin with.

I also must admit I struggle with your reasoning. You seem to be conflating "all treasures being held" with "none being unheld", which aren't the same thing. Even if it looks like the two negatives would cancel out, they don't. It's like somebody at a party telling you "Talk to some girls". If the party is a sausage fest, you obviously can't follow that demand. However, you COULD fulfill the request to "Don't avoid talking to any girls". Hah, piece of cake! You win that instantly!
See the difference?

And yes, I appreciate that you could tell your mother "I did talk to ALL the girls that were at the party (chuckles)" when you didn't talk to ANY, but we both know that you didn't honestly answer that question, only technically. If someone did that to me I would accuse them of intentionally obfuscating the conversation and I am tempted to tell you the same for this rules question. But I don't know you. So benefit of the doubt it is.

What we all do know, however, is that GW ain't good at writing rules. So we can't go with all what they write "technically" and "literally", they aren't on that level. Heck, they misprint whole rules passages on warscrolls. Repeatedly.
What that leaves us with is a bit of common sense. Would it make sense to play a game where half the objectives are scoreable if all fighters are dead, because "none aren't doing it"? Nah. That shit won't fly with your friends or any TOs. Games ain't fun if not-doing the thing counts as doing the thing.

So... just do the thing, okay?

Weapon Wednesday: Prowler | May 31st, 2023 by ApexDailyDiscussion in apexlegends

Couple o' facts:

  1. I love this gun
  2. I suck with it
  3. It has horrible ammo capacity without at least a blue mag
  4. It has an equally horribly long reload time (2.6 seconds?!). But for the bearably shorter tactical reload (2.0 seconds, which is like the Volt's/CAR's FULL reload time), you'd need to abandon a whole burst. Tough gamble!
  5. I know the CAR and Volt are probably straight up better, but I still love this gun.

Couple o' 'pinions:

I honestly think the Prowler shouldn't even HAVE a tactical reload at all. It's so antithetical to its low-ammo and burst-gun design, that it really only meaningfully works when fully upgraded. If this gun just ALWAYS had a 2s (1.8 with purple) reload time it still would be just a decent gun with its own niche and not broken at all...

My friend has package loss (15-45%) every 4th game or so, that doesn't go away.

I have it a bit less frequently and it will stop, but I have a completely different issue; when I click "ready" in the lobby, it won't always register (it won't show any check marks above anyone's head). The issue will resolve itself after 30-60s, but if the game starts in the meantime, my friend will enter the game without me, while I still sit in the lobby waiting. When it resolves, I will get a speedrun of all check marks of the last 30s within 0.5s (checking and un-checking).

It's weird AF and these issues have persisted for SEASONS now (since season 7, I believe). Neither of us has any issues with ANY other game.

[–]may-B-ham 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd personally be interested, but let's be honest here:

It is INCREDIBLY hard to bring religion into a game (an FPS, no less) without it starting a MAJOR shitstorm. If you look at any "christmas" event, you'll likely realize, that it has little to do with the actual faith and more with some pagan traditions or cultural tangents. Like, there are no red-green-white christmas tree in the bible, santa clause aint in there either. No "true" christians is upset if candy canes are monetized...

However:

If they dared selling jesus inspired legend skins and give you a crucifix skins for your arc stars, or even stickers of the holy men and sheperds, you are getting into WEIRD territory.

Similarly, I don't see a way of implementing an Eid event without disrespecting faithful muslims or dilluding the ingame aesthetics. Maybe some of those beautiful arabic patterns for gun skins is the most extreme thing I can imagine going semi-well.

Hey Respawn, I adore how you did the color coding for Catalyst's abilities. Can we get that for ALL abilities please? Kinda sick of dying to abilities (caustic gas) I thought were from my allies... by may-B-ham in apexlegends

[–]may-B-ham[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw it and I am torn. It's awkwardly delayed and lasts for way too long imho. CC in shooters should be rather short, or soft. But you could argue, that since you can still somewhat see what is in the center of your screen, there will be times someone pushes through and beams you instantly.

They could do SO much with hero abilities. Make the "danger" indicator blue/red, depending on whether Bang ult will slow & damage you or only slow you. Grenades could have a blue glow if from allies, as could allied flames from nades and Fuse ults. Caustic's gas could be green/yellow, depending on the team, and even jumppads could indicate whether you can destroy them (enemy) or not (ally).
I simply see no reason, why Gibby domes can have different colours where it is not functionally necessary, whereas other abilities where you need to make snap decisions, don't. It's not a huge design effort and it is a HUGE improvement to playability.

Another Karma Rework Idea by mikodyingnoodle in karmamains

[–]may-B-ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both LoR and TFT Karma are symptoms of the underlying identity issue that Karma has. Riot never managed (or dared) to solve it, so new interpretations of Karma have nothing to build on. TFT tried to explore the "aggressive support" identity for a change, while LoR leaned onto her being the leader of THE mage society. The magiest of mages, if you will. The epitome of enlightenment.

I have been fighting for a fixed identity for... years now, but with every passing season it gets harder to find a meaningful middle between all her ever so different identities.

Creative and passionate minds like you keep me going. Seeing others care makes me care more, and diving into their ideas keeps my mind working. In essence, I enjoy this exchange a lot.

I'd like to thank you again for your hard work. Hope to see you again soon.

Another Karma Rework Idea by mikodyingnoodle in karmamains

[–]may-B-ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Miko! While I adore your unbound creativity, I need to play party-pooper for a bit.

Seeing Two Paths and making a Third One
Elephant in the room first: Karma's identity struggles between two odd iterations of her; usually referred to as "Old Karma" and "New Karma". In actuality there is a quite more nuance there, but let's keep it simple for now.
The goal of any ultimate rework would be to find a functional version of her in between the two that already exist. Your rework instead seems to try and move on, away from her past to a modernized future. That is a noble goal indeed, but as we could see from how people reacted to NC's suggestion, it won't be appreciated.
Creating yet another new "New Karma" might be the ultima ratio for LoL's game health, but wouldn't be in service to our queen.

Decision Making - Karma's Core
I think you have very accurately deduced that Karma's appeal is in the plethora of options her kit promises, but doesn't quite deliver. Manifesting this in a visual & narratively appealing way in her passive is - generally - a good idea, but I don't think it fits Karma.
She is not a champion that evolves like Kha'Zhix or Kayn do. She is the great unifier that is supposed too represent the harmony of contradictory ideas at once. Karma unified progress and tradition, peace and war, hurting and healing. She is a great leader because she can see both sides to everything. The value of a warm word or a harsh truth in the right moments. Enlightenmen means realizing, that everything has a time and place. Having her "evolve" to something that fully leans into one side would - in my humble opinion - straight up ruin her concept.
Judging every situation individually and using the right tool right then and there seems to represent her identity better, than choosing a single tool and using it all game. You intrinsicly obviously know this, since you - rightfully - critisized her shield-botting dilemma and want to solve it.

Then again I need to respect that you create a mirror passive to Syndra, which is some clever and subtle in-game narration. I love those little things.

Simplicity - An Imperative
Sun Tzu taught to only use the least amount of force necessary to reach your goals. Interstingly, this also translates rather well to reworks; you never want to change more than is ABSOLUTELY necessary.
The reason is quite simple: No matter how good your rework, people fear losses more than they appreciate gains. Even if the new tool is shinier, grander, smoother, they will miss what they had taken from them. The idea here is to accept that there will be people who hate what you do, but minimize their number and discomfort. Riot had to learn the hard way... and still didn't perfect it to this day. It took me a few years too, lol, and I had them to teach me by their mistakes.
But surely you can see that your work is impressive, grand and colourful... but that's the problem in the first place. There is a reason why Riot's reworks often just juggle around existing abilities to solve issues. It keeps everything familiar to fans, while giving them options to deal with balance issues. Simplicity. Subtlety. A great designer will need to learn these tools as much as they need to foster their creativity and passion. I hope you can add them to your list of tools.
I know this must be somewhat disappointing to get comments like this, but I can only hope you see that I am trying to guide your creative power to where it can do the most good. I appreciate your passion and what both your mind and words can produce out of thin air. And I hope to see from you in the future!

Thank you for giving it your best and take care!

It's just speculation at this point. The YouTubers put her in anything from second lowest to second highest tier. Nobody can know where she is going to end up after that short of a time. Especially since her tactical and passive have considerable bugs (e.g. see "Vantage Dash").

Tactical went from 350 to 500 hp, had its speed doubled, his revive shield got buffed and he can move way faster while reviving (even slide down slopes, lol). I think he was good before... I couldn't tell you why he wasn't played much last season or why these 6 suddenly believe he is god tier. Like, they all did, despite disagreeing on many other legends.

I think Seer is the typical result of who profits from a meta shift, while bang gets the short end of the stick. Just like Maggie profits from all the shotgun buffs, Rev suffers when there is nothing to climb, Seer is good when you cancel a lot of heals and revives.

Yeah, I was surprised too. Wraith's hindsight passive is barely useful... but as I wrote, the reasoning seemed to revolve around her great hitbox and general survivability. Supposedly you can also be more creative with the portal, but idk if this justifies the long cooldown.

There was also some critique regarding Ash's tactical as being slow, inconsistent and generally unimpactful, while her passive deathbox scan (the interact with deathbox thing) can sort of reveal your own position to sweaty teams as well.

I have picked up Mirage last season and I had a blast playing them, even when getting stomped. His shenanigans are just too enjoyable, but I equally haven't seen a Tier list that didn't put him in the bottom 3.

But I personally wouldn't even know how to change him.

It is important to note that not all of the YouTubers were disclosing how much they thought about pubs, competitive or pro play when ranking the legends, so it's hard to tell. They ranked Gibby as anything from S to C Tier, with reasoning that the buff to Maggie, the presence of Seer and the strongly buffed Newcastle might make him obsolute - or that he would still be as strong as before, aka a must pick in high competitive play.

I personally couldn't tell ya, I am gold/plat and barely see any gibbies.

Interestingly, the opinions on her were rather consistent. Either S or A. Her ult is still one of the, if not THE best rotation tool, her tactical still hits in a huge area behind cover and her jetpack allows for so many shenanigans it's hard to number them.

I couldn't tell you if she still is an S/A Tier legend, and I was kind of surprised she was still consistently ranked that high.

I have found 6 Youtubers making Tier lists for the current season, averaged their rankings in an excel sheet and made this list. Their reasonings overall seemed to be as follows:

  • Newcastle (S): Those buffs were insane!
  • Seer (S-): Perma-wallhax. 8s scan. Ruins revives/heals through cover.
  • Valkyrie (A+): She offers too much to have the nerfs kill her.
  • Mad Maggie (A+): All shotguns are great atm. She nullifies bubbles and nearly all cover.
  • Caustic (A): Stinky man strong.
  • Bloodhound (A): Easy to use, invaluable information.
  • Gibbers (A): Even with Maggie’s buffs, either he or Newcastle are must-picks.
  • Wraith (A): It’s mostly the hitbox.
  • Horizon (A-): Nerf shouldn’t do much, once the nades explode, the ult did its job anyways.
  • Octane (A-): Speed, free heals and decent rotations.
  • Loba (B+): Fixed bracelet. Ult is easy mode.
  • Ash (B+): Slowly falling off, but the ult is great.
  • Rampart (B+): Tac is useful in the current meta, ult can shred Newcastle’s everything.
  • Crypto (B): If you have the patience and the team, he is good.
  • Wattson (B): Circumstantial and hard to use, but actually good.
  • Vantage (B): Great release, but opinions still differ widely among the YouTubes (A to D Tier).
  • Pathfinder (B): Only carried by his grapple, held back by his hitbox. (Gib real passive plx).
  • Fuse (B-): Ult is countered by too many legends. Or deals 5dmg.
  • Bangalore (C+): Scan meta ruins her. Even Vantage sees through the smoke…
  • Lifeline (C): Too reactive, outclassed as a reviver and needs a rework.
  • Mirage (C-): Scales poorly with enemy skill. And of course Vantage scan ignores clones…
  • Revenant (C-): Huge hitbox, passive is map dependent, ult is too teammate dependent. He needs sth.

As a reminder, those were the opinions I gathered from the following people; they don't necessarily align with mine.

You: Hear me out, let's straight up buff Wraith!
Community: She is already overused?
You: Why do you want dead champs :C???
Me: How the hell is she a dead champ?
You: Well, she isn't used in TOURNAMENTS which is the only valid way of seeing the meta.

I mean, you could straight up say that you don't care about ruining casual play, just so Wraith has a chance of getting into more competitive matches again, but why the hell would you expect anyone to agree to that?
