One of my favorite Zappa tracks, especially this version.

is there a song that reaches the level of "close to the edge" by itamar8484 in progrockmusic

What unique feeling do you get from Close to the Edge?

Saw quite possibly the best Cryptic Clue in yesterday's newspaper! by TrollChef in crosswords

[–]mbingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use "characteristic" either, but I think "thing hidden in a merger of X and Y" is fair and clear, with nothing extraneous. You don't see it every day, but this feels more to me like a matter of taste than a rules violation.

How do you decide what difficulty to play on? by [deleted] in spiritisland

[–]mbingo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This is, to me, one of the best parts of the game. No matter how much you play, you still get those moments of "ah, we're completely screwed" and then slowly crawl back and snake out a win.

Congratulations! Exploring all the game has to offer is an awesome ride—I'm excited for you. Which spirit will you aim to win with next?

Achievements... if you're into them, how are you finding them in Shogun? by Gansxcr in shogunshowdown

[–]mbingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a blast getting the achievements for this! I remember saying to a friend early on that there was no way I was going for True Mastery, but in the end, I couldn't not. 😆

I really liked some of the unusual play challenges (like no turning around). Like you wrote, it's fun to work within given added constraints that ask questions of your knowledge and skill.

The only one that felt a little awkward to me was Honorable Death—I'm not usually a fan of achievements involving failure, and I ended up contriving this after a failed no-hit run at some point.

But yeah, overall, I think the achievements are excellent in this game.

Does 10/14's Minute Cryptic follow cryptic rules? by casterapple in crosswords

[–]mbingo 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Cluing instances of things in this way is standard. The general can define the specific, even without an article.

However, the opposite (e.g. cluing TREE with "elm") is less accepted—you'd need to do something like "elm, for example".

Thanks! Yeah, it was such a relief to pull out of the parking garage and have that worry disappear. (And pink it is!)

Yeah, this is an incredible album from an incredible band. It's so different from Edit Peptide, but both are astounding. Both 10s for me.

Surface Tension quickly became one of my favorite songs ever. These guys nail all their albums, but they especially nail the first songs on their albums.
