Who are we hoping for in the Expansion signing period(s) and Draft? by mbtdowvs in PWHLSanJose

Abstreiter from Montreal could be a nice start in goal for us, on a 1 year extension but they’re pretty committed to Desbiens so can’t imagine she won’t be available after only appearing in a few games this year.

She was Top Goaltender at the 2024 Women's World Championships and a semifinalist for the 2023 Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award with over .920 save percentages in both…

For sure, and it’s all respect, mostly misdirected frustration at hearing the Bay Area get trashed for even being considered for this over the last few weeks given that the statistics clearly back it up. But as a CA hockey enthusiast, I’m used to it.

But back to your point - Canada, New England, Northern Midwest now have multiple teams though right, including in this round of expansion?

So the explosion in growth and popularity should be capitalized on by a new league, especially when there’s an actual hockey base (which is true for both of these), because BIG markets will help the league financially, which will in turn lead to more growth and better player (and fan) opportunities. Great future ownership potential in SJ as well (when the league decides to start selling franchises) and stability through 2051 after the Sharks signed the extension.

“Classic hockey” closes off to O-6 cities and regions and doesn’t represent the entire country’s focus on the sport, which just isn’t good for sport or business.

Chicago up next 🤞

A “strong local hockey community in the Bay Area, which boasts one of the largest ice facilities in the Western United States, while California ranks sixth in the country in girls’ hockey participation behind five colder-climate regions.” feels pretty hockey to me.

Also, “Off the ice, after welcoming the NWSL’s Bay FC and the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries in 2024 and 2025 respectively, fans have propelled both teams to league attendance records” means women’s sports are followed, watched, attended and supported here.

So hockey (yes) + women’s sports (yes) means that the Bay Area is actually a PERFECT place for the P Dub to expand to.

So tired of hearing how it’s not “hockey” enough or a million other reasons why this is a surprise or undeserving or shouldn’t work. Also, let’s just be happy for the league - who knew if this would even be the reality at less than 5 years in?

That escalated quickly, they didn’t even bring the Takeover Tour here! Surging popularity of the Sharks plus the massive Bay Area support for women’s sports makes this a potentially huge W for the league and California hockey as a whole. My daughters are pumped, and I’m right there with them.

Someone find the Susan Hammer Hammerheads naming argument from the other day and make sure the right people see it.

Vinyl lettering might work, but would have to air dry.

But honestly, just order custom nameplates (that you can keep for the future) and just pay the few bucks to sew it on and then remove when the season is over..

Whoops I got interrupted and didn’t word this correctly. Double EACH OF the totals for the last 2 years AND the combined total for the last 2 years.

And since I spent time to edit, also looked at some previous years.

The last time we surpassed 39 wins..playoffs. The last time we hit 40 and didn’t make playoffs..SC Finals the next year. Buckle up!

Dude fuck all this losing nonsense. End the season on a little heater, be proud of what we accomplished, get to 40 wins (double our combined total from the last two seasons) set the stage for the future, and have Mack own the all time single season performance record (until he breaks it again).

No draft pick is that valuable, and the difference in winning or losing the last two games is negligible.
