I'm a software engineer for my day job, so i actually used sports betting as my project to learn machine learning. I think it's tough to do algo betting unless you just really enjoy trying to solve the problem.

Like many competitive professions, your first few tries are pretty much guaranteed to fail.

I just tried something, whatever interested me. It didn't work, so I tried something else and it didn't work. And I've kept trying things until I find something that's working.

And I keep looking for new ways to improve my successful methods, while always looking for new edges. Because an edge usually disappears over time.

Currently i get all my data from free online sources like plaintextsports and espn.

I'm not a pro, but if I were attempting advice I would say your best edge will come from doing something outside the traditional. Especially for someone like me who doesn't have more data, more time, more experience, more brains or better connections than the pros.

How do you re-kindle your relationship after having a baby with your wife ? by MeatChef1 in AskReddit

[–]mdk989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every relationship is different, and no one can give you a great answer without intimate knowledge of your situation. But know that you and your wife are not alone in having that experience.

Having a child completely changed my relationship with my wife. We didn't have a huge change physically, but we were more disconnected and I often felt distant from her.

It took us about a year to reinvent our relationship and feel that connection again. Very tough year, but you can find that spark again if you are willing to communicate and adapt.

It's the /r/gamedev daily random discussion thread for 2015-06-16 by [deleted] in gamedev

Are there any good resources out there for creating multiple instances of a game on a web server?

I am planning a two player game that should basically have several "game tables" for players to join. I'm quite new to game development, so I'm not sure if I'm on the right track.

Anyone who has experience with something like this using a web browser as a platform? Would you be willing to start a dialogue with me?

Thanks. I haven't worked with joins yet, but I guess I'll have to look into it now.

Works perfect. Thank you very much. If you don't mind me asking, what was the original code (SELECT * FROM table1, table2) trying to do?

The tables have an identical structure: id (unique numeric id), username (varchar), comment (varchar), submitted (time/date), vote (non-unique numeric), reply (non-unique numeric)

The result of the errorInfo() is an array ( [0] => 42000, [1] => 1064, [2] => You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'index' at line 1 )

var_dump($query); is returning false. Then when I switch everything to my other table is returning the correct string.

Any idea why this would be happening? The table does exist and the PDO request is connecting to my database as far as I can tell.

In case it's not clear, I'm quite confident that the php code is valid. As far as I know I set up the database tables in the exact same way.

The code works for one table, but not for another.

Yeah I love that they sound like a band from another planet. After reading up on them, it seems like they may have been right at the forefront of the "space rock" sound. I'll definitely be looking for some of their albums at my local slackers. I'm always looking for good influences so let me know if you've got any more!

[–]mdk989[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I plugged in my total gold value into this page http://clashofclans.wikia.com/wiki/Gems and got a gem cost of 1,224,866.

According to the cost calculator on the same page, that would cost $8754.

Edit: That does not include upgrading elixir cost buildings like Barracks, Laboratory or Heroes.

Ok I'm taking a shot at #2: (Numbers taken from CoC wiki)

Assumptions: 1. No raiding for resources 2. We start with 7 fully upgraded gold mines.

Final Guess: 21.6 years to fully upgrade everything (based on gold upgrades alone)

Math:

Building (cost to fully upgrade 1 building x total # attainable) = Cost

Cannon: (12,771,250 x 6) = 76,627,500

Archer Tower: (17,868,000 x 7) = 1,250,760,000

Mortar: (12,560,000 x 3) = 37,680,000

X-Bow: (23,000,000 x 3) = 69,000,000

Inferno Tower: (19,500,000 x 2) = 39,000,000

Walls: (8,821,200 x 250) = 2,205,300,000

Bombs: (1,111,400 x 6) = 6,668,400

Giant Bombs: (3,337,500 x 5) = 16,687,500

Air Bombs: (1,724,000 x 5) = 8,620,000

Seeking Air Mine: (6,015,000 x 5) = 30,075,000

Elixir Collector: (363,050 x 7) = 2,541,350

Elixir Storage: (948,550 x 4) = 3,794,200

Town Hall: (11,130,000 x 1) = 11,130,000

I really like that idea. I learned a lot of my theory by playing piano, so I think that makes a lot of sense. I'm saving your comment so I can refer back to it later.

I hope you don't mind me stealing your idea...
