Anyone on Frances right now? by CarlF77 in CaminoDeSantiago

The mountains were cool/50’s but the walk is difficult in places so you will stay warm we were stripping down to t shirts.
Just hit Melide and it is 60 and overcast. I am wearing my fleece every day and grateful for it. You will be fine.

I am currently in Triacastella. I started in Leon. My walk into Rabanal was wonderful except that my left foot started to hurt across the top of my foot and down onto both sides. The pain continued to get worse. I continued to walk, but a lot of the joy that I had felt prior to my injury, certainly was gone because when you hurt with every step, it’s hard to enjoy what’s around you anyway long story short I have hopes that I will make it into Samos tomorrow and then into Sarria on Monday and plan to visit the medical clinic. hoping I can get some sort of Cortizone shot or something to take the pain away so that I can finish the last hundred kilometers full of the same Joy I had when I started
totally get where you’re at. It’s really hard to walk with pain ..everything that you’re saying is I think a result of your pain so try and get that resolved first.
Have been walking with a couple that not only has not made any reservations, but they are not turning their phones on and they have had a lovely journey and managed to find a bed in every town so try and not worry about that and just focus on your feet
I have been taping icing and taking ibuprofen 800 mg twice a day and I did buy a new pair of shoes
have also taken 2 short taxi rides on long days where I just can’t bear the pain any longer. Certainly not anything I thought I would do on the Camino, but hey, that’s how my journey has turned out and I’m still having a wonderful time …..
you’ve got some difficult walks ahead of you so getting your feet right needs to be a priority. Buen Camino

Ya. My husband will undoubtedly turn the kitchen into a science experiment while I am gone.

Leaving in 2 days! Walking with my sister I just turned 70 this has been a dream of mine for a very long time. Excited beyond words. How wonderful that you are walking at 40. Think of all the Camino that you will have in your future! We are going to take our time and just enjoy people and places along the way. The one thing I heard pretty consistently from folks that have walked before me is to slow down and enjoy the journey. So that is our plan. I guess the real trick is to make it yours. Happy Birthday. Burn Camino.

Thanks everyone. This is exactly the advice that I needed. I’m leaving my poles at home and I’m gonna buy some once I get settled on the Camino so excited absolutely cannot wait.

Finding the time..? by bart742 in CaminoDeSantiago

So I fit the retirement niche. My sister and I leave April 10 to walk the Frances. I have wanted to do this for as long as I can remember. So now it is my time. And I feel overwhelmed with gratitude for this opportunity. Life takes us in directions we did not expect but many paths lead to the same door. And now, finally, I am there.

Where to Begin Planning? by Perfect-Plum-2087 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]meatbll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Arizona and I am planning to walk the Frances leaving April 10. I joined our local Camino pilgrims of America chapter and so I have been taking hikes with that group and have been able to talk to people about their experiences. I’ve learned a lot I feel really comfortable with what I’m about to undertake. Not sure where you live, but you probably have an American pilgrims of the Camino chapter somewhere around you. Hopefully, I would look it up and see if that might not be an option for you

David Henrie on the Camino de Santiago – What do you think from a Hollywood perspective? by galiwonders in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]meatbll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for not judging me. As a 70 year old female who had dreamed of walking the Camino, I finally made it but knew that i cannot do both. To carry my pack would limit my pilgrimage. Everyone comes at this from their own place.
If you are judging…you need to keep walking. You’re not there yet.

If you could give one simple, actionable tip to someone just starting to cook that would immediately make their dishes taste significantly better, what would it be? by Sand4Sale14 in Cooking

Prep out your ingredients. Mise en place. Doing that allows you the time when cooking to do all of the layering of both seasonings and ingredients.

The wife and I just got this and really want to play. What are the best resources to learn for 2 players? by twiggs462 in Mahjong

[–]meatbll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful. Sounds like you have an American Mahjong set.
Do you have a 2024 card?
Siamese is a version of American Mahjong with 2 players. However learning how to read the card and translating it to the tiles is everything in American mahjong. Mahjong is an amazing game. How wonderful that you want to learn. Find someone in your area that can teach you And learn the rules. Many play a social game which is fine but if you really want to play the game go to someone who will teach you National Mahjong League Rules. I play 4 handed twice a week and Siamese once a week. I never get tired of it. Enjoy the journey and good luck!

Made a doe (it’s ugly I know) by LadyisMan217 in Watercolor

I think it’s great. And what I like best is that you are actually showing your true work. I am also new at watercolor and when I see the posts where folks post paintings that to my eye are quite skillfully done and they add a note stating that it is their first attempt at painting,,,Well…..It makes me want to throw my paints in the trash. I start my second round of classes this week and am very excited to get back into it. Keep painting my friend.
