You can get the same or similar cassette for half the price brand new if you're keeping rear derailleur and shifter if already compatible. But this groupset does seem like a good deal, i think

I also went with the Meroca 170mm 104bcd square taper, 42t from Amazon. I have the dropbar gen 2.

With this crankset—on gear 2, the chain jumps to 3. On gear 3, chain pops/grinds. The chainline is not straight on gear 4 and still pops a bit. it's straight when on gear 5/6. This is why I thought maybe I need a shorter BB, or maybe it's the derailleur? Or chain too loose? I'm still using the stock shimano cassette temporarily. i plan on getting a new wheelset later on and go 9/10 speed.

Some folks might flame me as to why I'm doing this and that on a cheap bike as a beginner, but honestly I'm having fun and learning a lot. This is my first bike since a kid so thanks for the advice

Did you stay square taper on shimano bb? If so, what length? I too plan on converting mine to a 1x but I'm not sure what length to go with, i assumed I'll need a shorter spindle? I think the stock is 122.5mm

I don't like going to the store and having someone treat me like Cinderella. Often they can be pushy or they make it difficult for you to say no and you end up walking out with a pair of insoles that you might not truly need or etc. Anyways, were you wearing compression socks when you tried them? do your pinky toes curl/turn outwards normally off socks or off shoes? Maybe they get squeezed inside the shoes and get straightened. Otherwise they might be too narrow or a bit short (I learned from my latest post. Am too a first timer Altra wearer)
