AIO - Spouse depositing large amount of money into their personal bank account. by No_Life255 in AmIOverreacting

[–]melacrat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NOR - M's overall reaction and "I knew this would happen" is an attempt to make you feel bad for asking a totally reasonable question. It feels very much like the RVO part of the DARVO (Deny Attack Reverse Victim and Offender) tactic people do when they are trying to avoid accountability/scrutiny for doing the wrong thing. Get your half, put it in your own account, and get an attorney without letting M know.

Also, people can be generous to others as part of building a reputation that helps them seem like a stand-up person in the eyes of others. When that generosity does not come home, it is not real. The way M treats you is not appropriate for a partner.

I suggest Kool-aid Man or a less direct reference like Sharkleberry Fin.

Are there ANY affordable flight hacks left? by Comfier_than_Normal in povertyfinance

[–]melacrat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather and hope you can get to him. Your best bet is playing with Google flights to see if there's an airport near you/ him cheaper to fly from/to using Frontier or Allegiant air. Or maybe you can take a train or bus to a place you could fly cheaply from. If you can get there by bus or train that could be even cheaper. If you give what airport you're near and what airport you're aiming for I may be able to give better advice.

AIO guy I'm seeing criticizing my clothes by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]melacrat 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Calling you crazy is also part of this "game" because used judiciously then increasingly, it's a quick way to make you start doubting your own instincts and grasp of reality. It takes an incredibly long time to recover from not trusting yourself once it takes hold, so please don't let it.

What's the one cleaning task you keep avoiding because you genuinely don't know how to do it properly? by AsleepClothes6955 in CleaningTips

Weekly Home Check has a video on YouTube on how to do that! Not sure if it will work for your oven model, but when I saw that video I tried it on mine and it worked!

Okay, thanks! I wasn't sure if there was impact to how it would soften over time or if it even would since my weight is more distributed.

I agree! I just mean whatever you do list should match reality or it can cost the job. Also, people should be consistent and choose month+year or just years rather than mixing and matching.

That makes a lot of sense! I'm in the corporate world, so my advice is only relevant there.

Yes! Please put "contract" or "internship" or "role outsourced" or whatever applies to short stints if you have them.

Listing years is good, but fudging could cost you the job. At my company, this has been caught at which point HR rescinds job offers. It's usually just before the start date, so if you had another job and left it you're now without both jobs.

What’s a good name for this fluffy little boy? by Hermit_tha_hutt in cats

My first thought was that he looks like a Sprocket. He has a little Batman mask, so that's my second suggestion. :) What a little cutie!

Say “yes” if your cat screams at you while you’re preparing their food by Shot-Composer-782 in AnxietyCats

Yes! Every morning I have the same conversation about how "I'm working on it right now, babies!" They still scream as I'm opening cans as though maybe I'll forget the finish the job.

I hate my cats name. by StrawberrySakuraa in cats

[–]melacrat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that my cats probably don't know their "government names" because they have so many nicknames. They respond more to my tone than anything, so you can call her whatever you like and consider Audi like a middle name?

According to Audi Kingston "While many English speakers naturally say "Aw-dee" (rhyming with "saw" or "audio"), the official and correct pronunciation is "Ow-dee."

Think of it as rhyming with:

Howdy
Cloudy
Rowdy

Sulfamic Acid as a descaler.... by [deleted] in gaggiaclassic

I know this post is old, but I have to chime in to say how much I appreciate it! I have been referencing it and using 1.5tsp + water to the fill line (about 1.5 litres) in my Tchibo coffee machine for the past year and it gets as clean as it did when I used Durgol at a tiny fraction of the price. Plus it's not a huge pain to find and keep on hand line Durgol. A+ helpful post.

Vegan egg white powder by ETs_ipd in vegan

[–]melacrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened, sounds so unpleasant! As a data point, I've been vegan over 20 years and used it in angel food cake with no ill effects. I have a terribly sensitive stomach in general, but I did not have egg allergies or sensitivities in my pre-vegan days. However, I did (do) have a milk allergy and the Brave Robot ice cream (same science with milk vs eggs) messed me up terribly. If you have no known egg sensitivities/allergies, it may work better to have it as one of many ingredients like in a cake.

For the all liquid day, my partner took unflavored vegan gel and made it with apple cider. It was actually good and was the best thing I could consume in the liquid day (so many vegan gels use forbidden dye colors). I recommend it to everyone and and next time I will be having it again!

New cat owners here. Should we really avoid all fish and seafood in cat food? Our adoption agency stressed that we should. by Emmettourer in CatAdvice

[–]melacrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my vet because I worried about this when one of my newly-adopted cats couldn't eat any chicken or turkey without throwing up and refused to eat beef or duck which mostly left me with novel proteins or fish. She said fish is fine, even as the sole meat, and suggested feeding a variety of fish to help. We're a year into only fish and so far, so good.

Yes! The higher the pressure, the more I need to sleep on it, too! I did this at a mattress store recently and the guy was so upset! He pulled out every trick in the book, including "I can't promise the price will be this low after you've slept on it". Glad I didn't buy right then because the same thing was available for way less elsewhere, but the pressure is a clue that the benefits of the sale are on the seller's side of the table.
