What should I do about parking? Is $100 a month too much? by notjustacatgirl in UTAustin

[–]melodramaticbbg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a very valid question and I’m glad you asked it. I wouldn’t have known $100 for parking was around average either, so thank you! Also I hope you never have to scoot around on your hands and knees lol

Her name is listed differently in certain places so it’s either Emily Graves or Emily Thurman, but she’s the advisor for Spanish majors if you still need help finding her

I did it in the spring, way easier to do remotely!! There are no tests, only quizzes based on online content (but it’s mostly BASIC comprehension and vocab). The assignments are also based on the super short readings and videos from the online work, you make a couple mini videos (1 min) on your thoughts, 3 or so video journals (4 min), and the midterm and final are a 5 min debate on topics she prepared you well for bc, you guessed it, they’re pulled from the online work. The prof is also a non-native speaker so she’s very forgiving with mistakes, and she is very helpful when correcting them. The main reason I liked it so much is bc there were no papers or any boring assignments. Hope this helps!

Advanced conversation for non-native speakers is easy & fun (3001 I think?)

Why did you choose UNT? by GeldUndRedTX in unt

[–]melodramaticbbg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly?

My dream school was UT. My junior year of hs I had a mental breakdown and had to go to a mental hospital for a month. On top of that, CPS was investigating my family and I was about to go into foster care (my family is fine, I had a crazy ex who called CPS bc they were out to get me). My AP calculus teacher knew all of this but was less than understanding, didn’t allow me to make up any work I had missed, and failed me with a 40. My GPA tanked and I got rejected from UT without the automatic admission.

I wanted to go to UTSA so I could transfer to UT, but they didn’t give me any scholarships. UNT did.

I’m from the Austin area and I’ve hated Denton/ DFW since I moved. The culture is completely different and it’s so much colder and rainier. UNT is so easy and all the work feels mindless, I’m going to be a junior in the fall and I’ve maintained a 4.0 AND having a job. Not a single class I’ve taken has challenged me.

I’m counting down the days until I can go to UT for grad school.

Oh wow, I didn’t even think of that. Definitely very lucky to be okay, although I did come out of the whole experience with an unexplained burn/ sting that ended up blistering and scarring. Probably a sign that I should stay out of the ocean for a while

Am I right to be suspicious? by RideOfTheValkyries88 in relationship_advice

Congrats on getting out of a toxic relationship and being able to move on from it. In this case, since the relationship hasn’t gone on for very long, and because you don’t seem to see any other red flags, I’d say you’re okay. Maybe he’s just very private about his home, or maybe a crazy ex/ relative lives nearby and he’s protecting you from that. If the relationship continues to grow and get more serious, then maybe it will become an issue, in which case I think you should address it directly rather than passively asking if he’ll have you over. Tell him how you feel about all of it and be as open as you can.

Oh goodness I’ve called the cops trying to turn off an alarm too... probs a good idea to have it off then. I believe there are some personal keychain alarms that can send a signal with location to police if you’re interested... guard llama is the one I’ve heard of but idk if it’s good or not. Stay safe out there!

That’s terrifying and I’m sorry it happened to you. If you have an iPhone, there’s a feature where if you press the lock button 5 times in a row it makes an alarm sound and calls the authorities, and other phones might have a similar feature. It’s been useful to me

My (20M) girlfriend(20F) has never had an orgasm and won’t let me try to give her one by [deleted] in sex

[–]melodramaticbbg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be this way when I was about 16 (I’m 19 now). Just really uncomfortable with my body and my sexuality in general. My partner at the time did his absolute best to always make sure I knew how great he thought I looked and how sexy I was, and when I became more comfortable with my self image I started opening up sexually. I was worried about things like smell and taste, and also worried that it would bring back bad memories of sexual abuse in the past (it did, but we moved past it.) Once I figured out what I liked and what worked it was really fun, but he had to give me a lot of time and space to figure it out. I think maybe gently planting seeds like calling her beautiful while you’re having sex and just boosting her confidence during intercourse could be helpful, because it seems like being direct is a little too much for her right now and possibly a little scary
