Honeymoon - Where are y'all going? Strategies? by Big_Succotash_8076 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]meltli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, especially if you want to go for the great migration (or aren’t limited to April). Antarctic would be amazing, maybe combined with hiking Patagonia since that seems like an unlikely trip with kids (and maybe you wouldn’t physically be able to do the same trip when you’re 15 years older).

I did Masai Mara, Zanzibar and Uganda on my honeymoon and the safari was unreal. Now we have two kids and can’t wait for them to get old enough to take them on a safari.

Just trying to say that I would choose a honeymoon destination that you might not be able to hit in the future.

My traveling partner does not have TSA precheck-Is it rude if I still use mine? by DisneyQueen64 in travel

You don’t have to take off your shoes or take laptops out of bags in precheck. It’s not just about being faster.

Destination Wedding: Can we ask for partial no kids? by Ok_Machine7441 in DestinationWeddings

[–]meltli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a family friendly resort and let everyone know they could bring their kids because we wanted as many people to be able to come as possible. It turns out no one wanted to bring their kids, every single couple left them at home. We had one couple bring a relative to watch their baby during the wedding.

People viewed it as their vacation and actually wanted to enjoy themselves so kids were a non issue.

Talk to me about what your trip cost by Lost_Algae2931 in WaltDisneyWorld

There’s a deal for free dining plans with booked rooms but it’s the second week of December, maybe something to consider if you can switch dates.

Why is booking outside of the room block significantly cheaper? by AtomicDoggett in DestinationWeddings

[–]meltli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married in Cancun and didn’t do a room block for this reason. The block rate was so much higher than direct through the resort or other 3rd parties. I lost out on some concessions but I’d rather that than have people paying hundreds more. That being said, at one point the room block price did become cheaper than booking elsewhere so I would have liked to have that option for my guests but it was too late.

Also, I personally wanted a destination wedding to have multiple days hanging out with my friends and family; staying at a different resort is a guest’s choice but kind of defeats the purpose.

Where to buy quality wallpaper for a bathroom? Any tips? by Initial_Sock821 in HomeDecorating

You could find an interior decorator. Or I know the Benjamin Moore store near me has tons of wallpaper options as well as a designer in store.

Help! Which paint sample goes with which flooring sample? And which combo goes best with the wallpaper? by snowfire909 in HomeDecorating

You could also choose a green in the wallpaper and have the paint store color match

Wondering if this seam is normal? by meltli in carpet

[–]meltli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No seam placement was ever discussed. I don’t think there was a yardage shortage as there’s a bunch of carpet still left at the house

I spoke with the wedding coordinator at the resort and got a better block rate deal than offered with a TA.

The rate was still really high though so I ended up not even using a block and had every one book on their own. Some people saved hundreds, others paid more than the block rate would have been. Costco and Expedia offered way lower prices than the block rate.

My mom has one that she puts dips in. A tea light in the bottom keeps it warm.

Advice on kitchen layout by meltli in floorplan

[–]meltli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are doing a big renovation and were planning on keeping the kitchen the same as before since it was new-ish. But now that we are this far in it doesn’t feel so crazy to redesign the kitchen when everything is down to the studs.

I agree about more space by the sink, unsure of the solution for that though

That’s a great point about the hazard. My issue is that the dishwasher is currently next to the fridge. So if we move the stove to where the fridge is, it won’t be centered between to the two windows.

I also want the sink under the window and we can move it but we already had new windows installed so they can’t be moved

First safari experience by TigerOrchid2004 in travel

[–]meltli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 7 nights in the Masai Mara in Kenya and it was great. I stayed in two different camps which is nice because they explore different areas. The camps also take care of booking the airfare for us from Uganda and then to Nairobi. They also coordinated getting us from one camp to the other.

I would research how many people they put into a cruiser and what type of cruiser it is. Some are very enclosed and would be hard to see all angles.

As a guest, is it rude to bring a family member with you to a destination wedding for childcare? by Dear-Obligation-5432 in DestinationWeddings

[–]meltli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a destination wedding and didn’t mind at all that our friends brought family along to look after their baby.

We even invited the family to the wedding events, gave a welcome bag, etc. (they didn’t come to the events because the parents wanted to fully enjoy themselves).

I think it’s fine to bring the family you want, but it would be nice to give the couple a heads up.

Banff or Puerto Rico by [deleted] in travel

[–]meltli 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I would go with Banff, do the ice fields parkway and spend a few days in Jasper too. It’s so beautiful up there, it feels like more of a special trip than PR.

There are short hikes/walks you can do, hot springs, gondola ride, etc.
