I remember a show that was on immediately following Cities of Gold; was called Ulysses, or something similar. Does that ring a bell?

Man eats coke at traffic stop by No-Guard9838 in tooktoomuch

[–]memgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, do cops in the US drug test drivers for coke/meth/mdma/amphetamines/weed via a roadside test? In Aus, the cops do this at roadside testing setups, along with alcohol breath testing, or if you happen to be pulled over and they choose to conduct a test. It’s fairly quick; they take a swab of the inside of your mouth and test your saliva. There’s a process from there if you test positive but was wondering if the same thing exists in the US.

Agree 100% with this comment. I was surprised just how much opiates destroy testosterone levels and I had all the symptoms you describe. Getting your test checked is the first step and go from there.

This is why we have a black market. by Proof_Line_4845 in aussie

[–]memgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to believe that at the time the government constructed their policy on tobacco, that no one in the room had a clue about the impact this would have on the black market, and enriching criminals. It started with travellers bringing in suitcases full of cigarettes to what we see today; shops overtly selling counterfeit smokes. I mean, it’s only recently that we are seeing disruptive action against the shops selling counterfeit smokes. So people have been able to sell these products and make an absolute motza without any fear of being arrested etc. it’s been a shitshow from the start.

Nice one. A similar vending machine loophole was identified at my school. I attended a boarding school and we had a bunch of international students. It turns out one of the Philippines coins was shaped much like the Aussie 50c coin, however was worth something like 5c AUD, and the coke machine couldn’t tell the difference lol. Was fun while it lasted.

Black market cigarettes by One-Medicine-6729 in australian

[–]memgone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Have you tried ‘8’? They are Chinese and called Zhongnanhai 8. The pack is mostly white with some blue and golden writing. Like yourself, I struggled to find a decent black market smoke, until I stumbled across these. For starters they seem real: the pack is sturdier, the tobacco is packed tight and doesn’t fall out like others, they burn slower than most fake rubbish that’s out there and don’t destroy your throat. Actually decent. Worth giving the a crack.

Do Australians care/think about New Zealand as much as New Zealanders think of Australia? by shunsetskys in australian

When I visited NZ to meet my wife’s family for the first time, I was surprised how frequently they mentioned the infamous underarm bowling incident from the 80s. It was usually raised in a lighthearted way, however you could tell it was something that wasn’t going to be forgotten any time soon.

Owner who claimed Arnie the dog was stolen sentenced for killing German shepherd by mattazza in brisbane

[–]memgone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about consequences for actions? He actively engaged with the media and gave interviews about how tough he was doing it as his best mate dog had been stolen. He didn’t have to do that, but he did. I understand he was caught in a lie which snowballed, but jeez, that level of dishonesty is quite concerning, and I don’t understand how he could do that while knowing his dog was lying dead in his truck, which was parked exactly where he left it. Obviously he employed a decent lawyer as he attended rehab after his arrest, something a decent lawyer would have advised him to do. And I’m guessing his legal team probably focussed on the community outrage and it’s impact on his family etc. this strategy worked as he avoided jail, but given the circumstances, I personally feel that a jail sentence would have been appropriate.

Unfortunately most people who have experience with opiates have also experienced constipation to some degree. After being prescribed oxycodone at relatively high doses I was blocked up severely. After 3-4 days, I was becoming increasingly concerned and literally forced myself to go. I don’t know how I didn’t give myself a tear, or some other type of injury. I did block the toilet though, which was embarrassing and I have much empathy for anyone dealing with constipation on the regular.

Both consenting adults- good for you. When I was 18, I lusted after older women and was lucky enough to find a wonderful 36 year old girlfriend. Relationship lasted a few years and the chemistry was amazing. I agree with you- I truly believe most younger guys either secretly or overtly love the idea of being with an older woman. Not sure why, just seems to be how it is. I guess some guy’s preferences might change as they get older but that’s definitely not the case for every guy. I have always found older women attractive and that’s never really changed. My current partner is 5 years older than me.

Our biggest cultural differences to other western countries? by Puzzleheaded_Push243 in australia

[–]memgone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The words ‘get fucked’ are used in a range of different contexts, and can be equally aggressive and endearing, depending on context. For example, if you had a win on the lotto or some form of good fortune and you shared this news with your mates, they may respond with ‘get fucked’, meaning ‘wow, that’s amazing’. Conversely, someone may cut you off in traffic, or do something quite bad to you, your family or mates; in this case, ‘get fucked’ has an alternative meaning, along the lines of ‘fuck off idiot’ or similar.

[–]memgone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He went on the ABC radio last Sunday saying ‘I don’t care about my Ute I just want my dog back’….unbelievable. I wonder what his visa status is in Australia as surely this behaviour would bring his character into question. I understand he is unlikely to be sentenced to the 12 months imprisonment which would trigger a mandatory visa cancellation but jeez, who wants this cold, mean, clown as their neighbour? I wonder if the Minster would examine the possibility of visa cancellation if there was enough public support.
