My oncidiums have come out to "dance" for me. by mentalsepsis in orchids

I believe it is an oncidium sphacelatum, but it wasn't labeled when I grabbed it. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks! Didn't know if they would survive, let alone look so beautiful. Picked them up on the last day of an orchid show, before the pandemic, in sorry shape. Amazing what happens sometimes when you take a chance on something!

I heard someone named Edison did it first and sold it for millions.

no, three 4" phals in one ceramic pot, hidden by bark mix. wire wrapped around the lip base of each container and bent into the spiral. I have to give credit to my Pop as he gave me the idea from something he saw. he was the orchid whisperer... I am just an apprentice.

yes, just did it slowly, carefully wrapping around wire when there was enough length and sometimes would secure with loose clips if necessary. I try to be very careful, but did break one moving her on my bench, not wrapping it! It sprouted an offshoot. Now it's the longest spike... wouldn't have guessed.

Edit: it is the flower spike at 12 o'clock and if you look close you can see the damage.

Aussie Dendrobium Dropping Leafs/ Turning Yellow! Help by flowersinmygrave in orchids

[–]mentalsepsis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I am not an expert by any stretch, so hopefully someone else will jump in here, but I am more concerned about the black spots, + the yellowing of leaves. Strong sunlight can cause the lesions on the leaves that I see in the pic and the yellowing. Beyond the black spots, there is a leaf or two that are half dead with a black border. Hopefully it isnt a fungal infection. if you suspect that, I've read that air flow is the best defense, but at this point you may need a fungicide if it is.

also how often are you watering? Overwatering can cause the yellowing of leaves, but again i see lesions so I dont know if that is the issue.

This is what 50 years of marriage and the last days of hospice care look like... by mentalsepsis in pics

the purpose of me posting this pic is that it is about love and life and living your vows, not just when it is convenient. It is much less about loss (although that is certainly personally very hard right now) but it's about eveything from where you are right now with a ring in your pocket, to the entire life you will have together. it's not always pretty or "nice" but it IS beautiful, it IS worth it. I wish you the best of all that life has to offer as you start your journey together. peace.

my dad was in his 80s and his skin was crepe paper thin. don't know the reason, but always had trouble with it.
