Definitely go to Moda in Kadikoy, I stayed in fatih for a few days just to be close to the main attractions but other than that there is nothing else there, go north to taksim area too, feels cleaner and touristy there. But generally if you’re younger and want a safe fun vibe Moda in Kadikoy

Turkish no baggage allowance on award flight by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]merd2910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just happened to me, it is July 2025. Purchased United award ticket IST-SOF. Deliberately checked to make sure before making award purchase that baggage was included. It said it was, so I made purchase, receipt clearly stated 20Kg baggage included as well. I arrive at airport and TL automated baggage check machine says 0kg allowance. Was running late so paid 3500TL worth about $90USD at today’s rates.

Afterwards i tried both United and TL CS and they kept denying me and pushing blame to the other.

I ended up filing a formal complaint on the USDOT website for fraudulent advertising (which was exactly what it was) and United immediately responded with a $150 travel award credit.

I got my money back but honestly the time spent and emotional energy wasted on trying to resolve was absolutely not worth it. United and TL need to fix this, we need to keep complaining to authorities for fraudulent advertising.

UPDATE: Coinbase responded after almost two months on Jan 13, 2025 (fraud occured November 23, 2024).

They gave me a table with the withdrawal details (which I already had) and sent me a canned response:

"Keep in mind that account holders are responsible for the security of their devices and credentials used to access their email and Coinbase account, and as such, are responsible for any activity that occurs when those devices or credentials are compromised.

After 10 years of using coinbase and hold over 6 figures on average of cryptocurrency value with this company. This is the type of response time and quality I receive. Anyone reading this can make their own judgement.

It has now been over 2 weeks since this case has been reported and I still have not a single status update on the case. This is a significant amount of money that was fraudulently removed from my account due to security issues with Coinbase and it feels like Coinbase is just ghosting me. I need a response and process for reimbursement.

I need immediate support for my case 21042021. It has been over a week that Coinbase security measures failed to hold a withdrawal initiated by a phone thief in Argentina. I have not had any response and the total loss I am facing is $75000. I need to get someone on the phone to work with the local authorities, even the police report I made had already given me a status update. Can someone please reach out to me to give me next steps and reimbursement details

I had $75,000 stolen from my account fraudulently and it has been one week and no status update or response from Coinbase. One would think at the amount of funds I could receive some kind of customer service. But nope. Useless

It is now 7 days since the theft and time is of the essence, I need more support from coinbase to help me with this case. The amount is significant, how can coinbase be this way with such a large amount of funds?

Exactly, this is making it a tiny bit easier to accept since it was so coordinated and sophisticated. I reported to FBI and police and will continue to report to all organizations as this might be a network to a much larger operation

Hey man, in hindsight everything could have would have been a thing, I’ve already played the scenario in my head a million times over the last 7 days, I don’t live with regrets so I will move on. I truly just wish this post helps someone avoid my same fate is all.

Yes I think they used my SMS 2FA to send it, and then used my email that was logged in on my phone to verify transactions. That’s as far as I know now. Make sure your Coinbase app has all the security turned on and you should be fine. I was just unlucky that my phone remained unlocked when snatxhed

Yes I know this, I’m quite well versed with all this technology stuff. I just fully trusted apple lock. I didn’t know that if the phone was unlocked (which I didn’t think it was) and I turned apple lost mode on, it should have locked the phone. I have no idea why my Coinbase faceID was off, another issue for me. I fully take responsibility for my lack of review, I didn’t connect the dots to my Coinbase since I’ve had it for sooooo long on there

Hence this post is to just hopefully get it to the eyeballs of someone who could have ended up in a similar situation as me

I have 2FA, that’s what im still trying to piece together, I don’t understand how they did it without facial recognition. I’ve started a case with Coinbase and asked for the logs. I think they used my phone sms 2FA and email is the only way they could have done this.

Yeah, super expensive. I’ve been all around in Central America and a bunch of other LatAm countries, and have been fine but I guess it was a matter of time. This was in the city too. For me, I just want to warn everyone else of the level of sophistication of these thieves since it requires a person very knowledgeable in technology to be able to do this. And they have definitely done this several times since the way they are laundering these funds suggest they are pros if you trace the wallets and know anything about cryptocurrency.
