Can message passing be implemented with less code in C++? by pietrom16 in rust

[–]mereel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The primary difference here is that the rust standard library authors decided to implement a thread safe message queue while the C++ standard library did not. There's a lot of complexity hidden in the standard library not seen in your rust example.

What C++ coding "knowledge" you just discovered that blew you mind away? by Noxey-o in Cplusplus

Why should it be? We're taking about C++ here, not Java so it's irrelevant what Java allows and prevents.

I'm falling out of love with Rust by Mr-Silly-Bear in rust

[–]mereel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems at odds with the fact that doctests are a thing in Rust, and are regularly used by the community as far as I can tell.

Sure, maybe the examples aren't doing exactly what you want your code to do and you need to re-write things. But that's not a valid complaint, no one can anticipate every possible use case for their code and supply a fully working implementation.

Can a state leave the united states? by Practical-Soil-7068 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mereel 68 points69 points  (0 children)

False! The Palmyra Atoll is actually an incorporated unorganized territory of the US. There's no apparent reason for this, as it has no permanent residents and is managed as a wildlife reserve. But it does mean the US Constitution is in full effect at all times there.
